Today (27 november 2013) is the 51st death anniversary of K C Dey (1893- 27 november 1962). He is one of the few artists who achieved a great deal in his life despite the severe handicap of being visually impaired. One needs to take one’s hat off to a man of such talent perseverance and indomitable spirit.
K C Dey is today remembered as the uncle of Manna Dey and also for being the mentor of S D Burman. For the lovers of old Hindi movie songs, he is a legendary playback singer from the earliest days of Hindi movies.
Here is a rare song from “Pooran Bhagat” (1933) on this occasion. This song is sung by K C Day in his characteristic powerful and well groomed voice with perfect pronounciation of words.
R C Boral is the music director. I am unable to find the details about the lyricist of this song. It could be Basant Kumar Dubey. I request our knowledheable readers to throw light on the lyricist of this song.
The movie had had actors like Anwari Bai, Kumar, K L Saigal, K C Dey, Kapur, Tara etc in it. Since K C Dey’s name figures in the cast, so it follows that the song was picturised on him as well.

On the occasion of K C Dey’s death anniversary, here is this fantastic song from the earliest days of Hindi movies. The song is eighty years old, but sounds amazingly fresh. I heard this song for the first time just now and I was floored by the song. A timeless classic indeed.
