“Saugandh”(1961) was directed by G K Ramu for Hariharan Films, Madras. The movie had Anjali Devi, Gemini Ganeshan, M. N. Nambiar, P. S. Veerappa, M. N. Rajam, Kamala Laxman, M. Saroja, P. S. Venkatachalam etc in it. From the cast, it looks like a South Indian movie dubbed in Hindi and its original songs translated and recorded in Hindi.
Here is a song from “Saugandh” (1961). This song is sung by Rafi. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Dilip Dholakiya.
According to Rafi excel sheet, this song is lip synced by Gemini Ganeshan.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.
Song-Kaun raha hai kaun rahega (Saugandh)(1961) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Dilip Dholakiya
Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
apne liye jiye to zamaane mein kya jiye
jeena wohi hai jo ho kisi aur ke liye
kaun raha hai kaun rahega
duniya aani jaani
rehta naam usi ka jisne
ki ho kuchh qurbaani
kaun raha hai kaun rahega
duniya aani jaani
rehta naam usi ka jisne
ki ho kuchh qurbaani
mard wohi jo zulm ke aage
sar na kabhi jhukaaye
mard wohi jo zulm ke aage
sar na kabhi jhukaaye
jo auron ke sukh ki khaatir
apni jaan lutaaye
bhool sakega kaise koyi
uski yaad suhaani
rehta naam usi ka jisne
ki ho kuchh qurbaani
kaun raha hai kaun rahega
duniya aani jaani
rehta naam usi ka jisne
ki ho kuchh qurbaani
soch na toone qurbaani ka aa
kya badla hai paaya
soch na toone qurbaani ka aa
kya badla hai paaya
yehi bahut hai tu duniya mein
kaam kisi ke aaya
bachcha bachha kahega ik din
teri prem kahaani
rehta naam usi ka jisne
ki ho kuchh qurbaani
kaun raha hai kaun rahega
duniya aani jaani
rehta naam usi ka jisne
ki ho kuchh qurbaani
Fab number from Rafi Saab, as always. Dilipbhai is no more with us as is Gemini Ganesh. Wonder how Gemini Ganesh spoke Hindi. His voice was ubbed, perhaps?
It indeed looks to be a dubbed version of Veerakanal(1960), which had the same cast, with music by K.V.Mahadevan. G.K.Ramu has directed the Tamil version too. Hariharan Films was owned by P.S.Veerappa (his son’s name was Hariharan).
Am trying to check if the songs have been remade as they were in the Tamil version or were composed afresh.
