“Street Singer” (1938) was directed by Phani Majumdar for New Theatres. The movie brought together K L Saigal and Kanan Devi together for the first time. This movie was a sumptuous musical feast as it contained 13 songs in it. As many as nine songs from this movie have been covered in the blog.
Today (11 april 2014) happens to be K L Saigal’s 110th birth anniversary. Since we have already covered all available K L Saigal songs in the blog, we do not have any more K L Saigal songs to discuss on such occasions. However we still have a few songs from his movies left over and sung by others that we can discuss.
Here is a Lovely song from this movie. It is a beggar song sung by an unidentified male andPurnima Devi. The picturisation shows them going past K L Saigal while singing this song. Saigal calls them, give them some money and advises them never to work in theatres and to go away from the place. So K L Saigal appears in this song, not as a singer, but as an actor who speaks a few lines in the song.
Aarzoo Lucknowi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R C Boral.
I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the unidentified male voice as well as the actors in the picturisation.

Lyrics
Prem bhikaari premi rogi
kaahe jog ramaaya aa aa
Prem bhikaari premi rogi
kaahe jog ramaaya
ghar se niksa
jata badhaayi
aur pardes basaaya aa aa
ghar se niksa
jata badhaayi
aur pardes basaaya
jag se ??
chhod ke ghar ko
jogi banke aaya
jag se ??
chhod ke ghar ko
jogi banke aaya
birha agan ke
bankar aansoo
pathhar ko pigh..
dekho
theatre mein naukri mat karna
samjhe
naukri deta hi kaun hai babu
ye lo
bhaag jaao yahaan se
is shahar se bhag jao
ye shahar bahut kharaab hai
bhaag jaao
donon aankhen
donon baahen
milne ko lalchaayen
donon aankhen
donon baahen
milne ko lalchaayen
aas milan ki jeewan aasha
dukh sankat kat jaayen
kat jaayen
aas milan ki jeewan aasha
dukh sankat kat jaayen
kat jaayen

The solution (time has come) lies in dividing it in 2 parts as it has become too heavy > nearing the 10k mark..

How was that this beautiful song missed on the blog (including me)?
The original sound track of the song contains a couple of lines sung by K L Saigal also duet with Kanan Devi. Since both K L Saigal and Kanan Devi were contracted to different recording companies, probably, in the record version, K L Saigal’s lines may have been omitted. The video clip of the song with dialogues below :

After your comment and link, I realised that this song has already been discussed in the past.

I have now replaced this song with another as yet undiscussed song from “street singer” (1938), one where K L Saigal’s voice appears, though he does not sing the song.

Last few days, I have been facing some internet related problems. I do not know whether it is related to chrome browser I use or MTNL broadband problem. While the home page of the blog opens quickly, any subsequent opening of pages like ‘list of movie-wise songs’ etc takes a considerable time. Same thing happens with YT and other websites. Hence, I could not check whether the Kanan Devi song was already covered in the blog. But I was sure that duets of K L Saigal-Kanan Devi must have been covered since it is also a K L Saigal song.

kamath ji,
I also face the same problem with this Blogspot that ‘List of moviewise songs’ does not open soon. It takes quite some time. I also use Chrome and MTNL.
