Today (26 august 2014) is the second death anniversary of A K Hangal (1 febraury 1914-26 august 2012). On this occasion, here is a song from “Hamkadam” (1980). This movie was directed by Anil Ganguly for Rajshree Productions. The movie had Rakhee Gulzar, Parikshat Sahni, A.K.Hangal, Dina Pathak, Ritu Kamal, Biswajeet, Iftekar, Madan Puri,Dinesh Hingoo ,Preetam, Pardesi, Partho Guha, Harish Mugan, Deepak, Chaturvedi, John Boland, Amol Sen, Anand Joshi, Pilloo Wadia, Nilu Arora, Komal Soni, Zubeda, Anita, Rajni Verma, Master Ashoo, Sameena Kashimiri, Baby Geeta Khanna etc in it.
The song depicts a lower middle class happy joint family. The picturisation shows Dina Pathak, A K Hangal (playing the heads of the joint family), Rakhi, Parikshit Sahni and Master Aasho. The song is lip synced by a lady playing the sister of Parikshit Sahni who is apparently Sameena Kashmiri.
The song is sung by Chandrani Mukherji. M G Hashmat is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

I recommend Humkadam movie stongly to those who love Anil Ganguly movies of that era.(all the actors play their roles very well, Helen as helping sales girl, Biswjeet as kind employer of Rakhee,Dina pathak and Hangal saab as always complaining saas/sasur)and the evergreen song(ae mere humkadam, mere dil ke dhadkan mein sangeet tumhaaraa hai-shailendra Singh and Arthi Mukherjee)
Surprisingly Bappi Lahiri gave Ravindra Jain type music for this above song under the banner of Rajshree Productions.(or is it my wahem ?? 🙂
In fact, A.K.Hangal iss film mein thoda saa “grey shadewaala” character bakhoobi nibhaaye hain(apne image se hattke).Rakhee aur Parikshit sahni play happy couple living in Mumbai. Retired hoke Parikshit ke maa baap aur ek behan(dina pathak,Hangal ji & co)Mumbai, apne bete ke ghat aathe hain. Ghar ke badhthe huye kharchon ko dekte, Rakhee(jo ab tak ghar chhodke baahr ki duniyaa mein utnaa gayee hi nahin) kamaane ke liye sales dept.mein kaam karne lagthi hai, jo unnke sasur aur saas ko achcha nahin lagtaa. A.K.Hangal(sasur of raakhi)creates many misunderstanding between Husband and wife.A.K.Hangal saab iss difficult character(jo hameshaa complain karte rehte hain ke “hamaare zamaane mein aissa nahin hotaa thaa) ko bahut achche tareeke se nibhaaye hain.
Here I want to remember, A.K.Hangal`s another cunning character in Manzil(1979-with Amitabh bachchan),where he acted very well. Kehne ka matlabh ye hai ke apne ko jo bhi “ek hi tarha” ke characters milne ke bavjood Hangal saab unn sab kirdaaron ko alag alag shades dene mein kaamyaab rahe.
I want to remember his roles
in aandhi,Avtaar,Sholay,Baseraa(as confused father of Rakhee and rekha),Besharam(1977-Amit ji`s father), I can go on and on….
