“Kaanoon”(1943) was produced and directed by A R Kardar. The movie had Mehtab, Shahu Modak, Jagirdar, Nirmal, Ulhas, Badri Prashad etc. in it.
The movie had eight songs in it. Four of the songs had Suraiyya’s voice in it and these songs were picturised on Mehtab. These included one solo song and three Suraiyya-Shyam Kumar duets picturised on Mehtab and Shahu Modak. All these songs have been covered in the blog.
The balance four songs from the movie were solo songs which were sung by Nirmala Devi and they were picturised on her as well. One of these songs have been discussed in the recent past.
Here is the second Nirmala Devi song from “Kaanoon” (1943). This song is written by D N Madhok and music is composed by Naushad.
The music of this song sounds like inspired from some earlier song (perhaps a K L Saigal song) but I cannot put my finger to it. I find this song a magical song to listen to. It is perhaps the best song from the movie and ironically one that few people are aware of.
I have been unable to note down some of the lyrics in the second stanza. I request our readers with keener ears to tell us what words they could be.
