“Prem Ki Aag”(1936) was directed by M L Kapur for Mukhtaar Film Company, Bombay. The movie had Mukhtaar Begam, Haseena Banu, Bhai Desa, Pran Shankar Acharya, F M Butt, D N Uppal, A R Akhtar, Safdar Ali etc in it.
The movie had nine songs in it according to HFGK, but only one record of this movie was made (containing two songs). So in effect, only two songs from this movie are available,assuming that the prints of this movie have been lost with time.
Here is a song from ‘Prem Ki Aag”(1936). This song is sung by Mukhtar Begam and composed by her as well. And if one notices the star cast, it becomes clear that the song was picturised on her as well. And indeed she was the producer of this movie as well. So she was sort of a one in all artist of those days. She in fact has the distinction of being the earliest female music director in HFM, who came even before Saraswati Devi.
Lyricist of the song is not known.
Though I have got the bulk of the lyrics right, there are still some gaps. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the gaps/ point our errors if any in the lyrics of the song.
