It should be an interesting exercise – to identify and list out all the sales pitch songs, and then check which actors have performed them on screen. My intuition is that the exercise will indicate that most sales pitch songs, sung by male voices, have been performed on screen by either Johnny Walker or Mehmood.
Presenting the next installment of entertaining sales pitch songs. And it is Johnny Walker once again. In the episode one before the previous, he was selling ‘kakdiyaan’. In this one, he has setup a “chalti phirti photography ki dukaan”. As can be expected, there is a song to along with it. He is making an attempt to woo new customers by enticing them with the thought that they can ‘carry’ their beloved close to their heart, after they have engaged his services to have a photograph taken by him.
The film is ‘Pehli Raat’ from 1959. Produced by AA Nadiadwaala under the banner of Pushpa Pictures, the film is directed by PL Santoshi. The star cast for the film is listed as Sohrab Modi, Nimmi, Rehman, Nanda, Sudesh Kumar, Prakash, Sheela Kashmiri, Manorama, Gupta, Jeevan, Munshi Munakka, Paro, Ameerbai, Ratna, Lalita Pawar, Daraaz, Adeeb, Maqbool, and yes, Johnny Walker. The nine songs of this film are written by Majrooh Sb and the music is composed by Ravi. The singing voice, is that of Rafi Sb, who has sung majority of the songs that Johnny Walker performed on screen.

I have seen the movie on the TV. The film was very tragic. Nimmi is shown as suffering old woman Beena. Lovely songs by Ravi.
Beena, an orphan girl reared in her maternal uncles house and undergoing aunties consistant ill-treatment, grows up and her marriage with a well-to-do groom is arranged by her loving uncle. On the wedding night Beena is widowed due to untimely death of her groom and the marital joys are reduced to funeral song; and to add fuel to flame, she becomes shortly pregnant too. News of her pregnancy degenrated into a scandal, and poor Beena, suspected chasity, is turned out of house by her shrewd sister-in-law Jamuna. Beena is rended a roaming destitute, eventually delivering a baby-girl in a hospital. Poverty and misery compelled her to abandon the baby to the tender mercies of Temple God, and turning off to a suicide……But HIS will was different that you shall see on the silver screen.
