“Biraadari”(1966) was produced and directed by Ram Kamlani for Gope productions, Bombay. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Fariyaal, Pran, Mehmood, Lalita Pawar, Kanhaiyalal, David, Helen, Nana Palsikar etc in it.
Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth and final song from “Biraadarai”(1966). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. This song is picturised as a “Helen” song where Helen performs a mujra for her clients viz Pran etc.
Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.
This song is special for the blog for a few counts. For one, “Biraadari”(1966) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the movie. In addition, this song marks a special (and artificial 🙂 )century for the blog. yes, this song is the 200th “Helen” song in the blog.
PS-Saaghar here is not the Hindi word (of Sanskrit origin) meaning Ocean, but an Urdu word (of Persian origin) meaning wine glass.

Lyrics
o o o
o o
o o o
o
Saaghar ko choom choom ke
masti mein aa ke pi
Saaghar ko choom choom ke
masti mein aa ke pi
kaliyon ke ras mein chaand ki
kirnen mila ke pi
o o o
Saagar ko choom choom ke
masti mein aa ke pi
aa aa aa
aa aa
naadaan toone seekha hai
peena abhi abhi
naadaan toone seekha hai
peena abhi abhi
kadwi lage sharaab to
paani mila ke pi
o o
Saaghar ko choom choom ke
masti mein aa ke pi
o o o
o o o
o o o
mehfil wo kya hai
jo na bujhaaye
sabhi ki pyaas
mehfil wo kya hai
jo na bujhaaye
sabhi ki pyaas
peene ka jab maza hai ke
sabko pila ke pi
o o
Saaghar ko choom choom ke
masti mein aa ke pi
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
sheeshe ki tarah
dil bhi agar saaf hai tera aa
sheeshe ki tarah
dil bhi agar saaf hai tera
tujhko wo khud kahega ke
mere ghar mein aake pi
o o o
Saaghar ko choom choom ke
masti mein aa ke pi

Atul ji,
As I was working the Holi song of this film, I had also checked out this song, as the last remaining song for the film. Browsing the YouTube, as I entered the search parameters for this song, the results also threw up a song from a Pakistani film, with words which are very very close to this song. I am not very familiar whether Pakistani films have many such songs of ‘seduction’. Music is by Khurshid Anwar.

It is an interesting comparison how the same situation is handled on two sides of the border. For one the performer has an audience of one. The manner of dressing is much much more discreet, as are the movements. Of course, the Pakistani song being from a 1959 film, pre dates this Helen song by seven years.

PS: Nitin ji, the meaning of the Urdu word ‘saaghar’ is as Atul ji has given – the cup that contains the wine.

I think sagar means just ‘water’ in Urdu with obvious reference to wine/liquor. Remember koi sagar dil ko behlata nahi
