“Geet” (1944) was produced by A R Kardar and directed by S U Sunny. The movie had Chanda, Shahu Modak, Nirmala, Amir Ali, Shakir Ali, A Shah, Zahid Ali etc in it.
HFGK mentions eleven songs in the movie. But as discussed yesterday, song numbers 8 and 11 in the HFGK list are one and the some. So there are in reality ten songs in the movie and not eleven.
Nine songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the tenth and final song from “Geet”(1944) to appear in the blog.
This song is vastly different from the other nine songs of the movie. The other songs were sung by Nirmala Devi and Shahu Modak and they sounded like “proper” puraani filmon ke geet. But this tenth and final song sounds surprisingly modern for its time. It is sung in Punjabi folk song style. Songs of this kind became popular in Hindi movies from 1950 onwards. I hope that this song under discussion is actually from 1944 and from this movie. The lyrics certainly match.
Allauddin Nawed is the singer. Lyricist is not known. Music is composed by Naushad.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song. I have not been able to get a couple of words right in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to tell us what these words could be.
With this song, “Geet”(1944) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.
Song-Matwaale o matwaale preet kabhi mat karna beta matwaale (Geet)(1944) Singer-Allauddin Nawed, MD-Naushad
Lyrics
matwaale o matwaale
preet kabhi mat karna
beta matwaale
matwaale o matwaale
preet kabhi mat karna
beta matwaale
sir(?) ke bheetar hook uthhe hai
chhak chhak karti rail chali hai
jiyara doley haale
beta matwaale
?? ke maare phool gaya hoon
laddoo khaa ke bhool gaya hoon
pad gaye jaan ke laale
beta matwaale
prem ki chatni khaata jaaun un
geet khushi ke gaata jaaun
phooten dil ke chhaale
beta matwaale
main bhi sundar
wo bhi sundar
wo hai bandariya
main hoon bandar
donon bhole bhaale
beta matwaale
matwaale o matwaale
preet kabhi mat karna
beta matwaale
matwaale o matwaale
preet kabhi mat karna
beta matwaale
