Nightingale Noorjehan – 5
——————————
After completing Noorjehan’s songs in ‘Hamjoli’, now we start with her songs in ‘Dil’.
Produced by Fazli Brothers and directed by Syad Fazlu Hussain, the film had Noorjehan, Abdul Latif, Baby Zubaida, Amina, A M Khan, Kamal, Geeta Bose, Ghori, Bhudo Advani, Anwari, Raazi, Anis etc starring in it. Shams Lakhnavi and Raziuddin ‘Arsh’ Hyderi were the lyrics writer and the Music was set by Zafar Khursheed. One Song ‘Aye Hawa, Ja Ja Piya Ke Ghar Jaa’ is already discussed on this blog, out of Noorjehan’s six songs.
Noor Jahan was one of the greatest film and music personalities of the subcontinent. She started her film career at the age of just nine years and became a super star as a baby artist and then as a top singer and actress in Indian movies. nitially she acted in a few Punjabi films including Dalsukh Pancholi`s movie Gul Bakavli.
In 1942, she played the main lead opposite Pran in Khandaan. This success of this film compelled her to shift to Bombay. She created musical history with films Duhaai, Naadan and Naukar in 1943, Lal Haveli and Dost in 1944, Zeenat, Bhaijaan, Badi Maa and Village Girl (Gaaun Ki Gori) in 1945, Anmol Ghadi, Dil and Hamjoli in 1946, and finally Mirza Sahibaan and Jugnu her last two films in 1947 before she with her husband Shaukat Hussain opted to migrate to the newly formed Pakistan.
Unfortunately, I have not seen this film. The song under discussion ‘De ke mujhe who dard-e-jigar’ is obviously sung by the heroin suffering separation pangs as well as enjoying her first love. Let us enjoy these mixed feelings through the lyrics of Raziuddin ‘Arsh’ Hyderi in this melodious song.
Song–De Ke Mujhe Woh Dard-e-Jigar (Dil)(1946) Singer-Noorjehaan, Lyrics- Raziuddin ‘Arsh’ Hyderi, MD- Zafar Khursheed
Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)
de ke mujhe wo dard-e-jigar
bhool gaye kya
bhool gaye
deke mujhe wo dard-e-jigar
bhool gaye kya
bhool gaye ae
zikr yahi hai shaam-o-sahar
bhool gaye kya
bhool gaye ae
deke mujhe wo
lehraati hui ae thhandi hawa
lehraati hui ae thhandi hawa
paighaam
paighaam unhen tu mera suna
paighaam unhen tu mera suna
kehnaa
kehnaa milaa ke mujhse nazar
bhool gaye kya
bhool gaye ae
deke mujhe wo dard-e-jigar
bhool gaye kya
bhool gaye
kaliyon mein tabassum aane lagaa
aane lagaa
kaliyon mein tabassum aane lagaa
armaan
armaan bharaa dil gaane lagaa
armaan bharaa dil gaane lagaa
bulbul se
bulbul se kahaa gul ne hans kar
bhool gaye kya
bhool gaye ae
deke mujhe wo dard-e-jigar
bhool gaye kya
bhool gaye ae
deke mujhe wo

According to HFGK, (my very good guide) there are two lyricists for the film ‘Dil” viz. Shams Lakhnavi and Raziuddin ‘Arsh’ Hyderi. Since ‘Arsh’ is a pen name for him Raziuddin Hyderi is the second lyricist.
Conclusion: Raziuddin ‘Arsh’ Hyderi is not a split personality but ONE person,………………..QED.

Nitinbhai,
I am sorry for my arguments about the lyricists of ;Dil’. You were RIGHT and when Atul-ji pointed out my mistake, now I know that my QED (in Algebra or Geography) was wrong. I apologize to you for my stubbornness but I am equally sure that you will pardon your friend.

Raziuddin
Circus King (1946)
Arsh Hyderi
Bindiya-(1955)
Zafar Khursheed
