Genius of Jaidev – 21

My last song in the ‘Genius of Jaidev’ series was posted on 6th January 2015. So it is after a gap of more than half a year that I resume the series with Asha’s song from the 1956 film ‘Samundari Daku’. Three(actually four, as ‘Dil Jawan Hai Aarzoo Jawan’, both solo by Talat and Talat-Asha duet are posted as one posting) out of six songs of this movie are already there on our blog. This one is from the remaining two solos of Asha.
1956 ‘Samundari Daku’ was produced by ‘Cine Arts, Bombay. (Do not get upset, because it was still ‘Bombay’ then) Produced by M N Batal and Hamid Jafri and Directed by A R Jamindar. It had a star cast consisting of Nadira, Nasir, Johny Walker, Kumkum, Indu Pal, Iftikhar, Nazir Kashmiri, Radhika, Tony Walker, Ramkumar, Hira Sawant etc. Lyricist was Vishwamitra Adil and its music was composed by Jaidev with the assistance of Prabhakar. According to the date of release, this was the second film of Jaidev after the first ‘Joru Ka Bhai’ whose songs were appreciated by the ‘good’ music lovers but the film was not received well by the ‘masses’.
The simple Ghazal sung by Asha is pleasant to hear. So let us enjoy.

The genius of Jaidev is truly reflected in this extremely sweet song of Asha Bhonsle.
A superlative combo of composition, voice and not to forget the superb lyrics of Vishwamitra Adil.
Thank you very much, Bharat Bhai for a rare song. Atleast, I heard it for the first time.
