“Naata” (1955) was a Madhubala Pvt Ltd Production movie. It was directed by D N Madhok. The movie had Abhi Bhattacharya, Madhubala, Chanchal, Vijayalaxmi, Kanhaiyalal, Heeralal, Gope etc in it.
As many as ten songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the eleventh and final song from “Naata”(1955) to appear in the blog.
This song is a qawwaali. According to HFGK, this song is sung by Rafi, S D Batish and chorus. I listened to the song several times while noting down the lyrics, but I was unable to detect the voice of S D Batish in the song unless his voice is part of the chorus. I request our readers with keener ears to tell us if they can detect his voice in the song. For the time being, I am including the name of S D Batish in the credits of this song.
Tanvir Naqvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S Mohinder.
The song is picturised on several people and I am unable to identify them. At the end of the qawwaali, they all break out into a joyously vigorous bhangra dance. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.

One wonders if Character Actor GOPE can be described as “nondescript”. During his heydays , it did not matter who the lead Actors were , the presence of Gope was enough to carry the Film through .
On 22nd May this year , Arunkumarji wrote as under :
“Gope was so famous and popular as a comedian that in many films, the hero would end up becoming a non entity
His total film tally is 152 films.
In film Patanga-48, his song “mere piya gaye Rangoon” had become a craze and people used to flock to the theatre for this song alone “.
Nitinbhai may like to reconsider his remarks ” All of them nondescript “.

The Principal SInger in the Qawwali is definitely Gope , while the others are not readily identifiable .
Whether SD Batish or not , there is definitely another voice in the refrain at 1:04 and again at 2:00 .
