TEEN TASVEEREN (1954) seems to be an obscure film that I became aware of for the first time while listening to a song from the film on Radio Ceylon popular programme ‘purani filmon ke sangeet’ uploaded by eraksoldies on YT. The film was produced under the banner of Ashok Studios and it was directed by S S Solanki, probably a one-film director. The actors who worked in the film were Anil, Kishore, Devendra, Neena Makker, Sharda, Munshi Kanjhar, Kumar etc. I had never heard of these actors’ names except Munshi Kanjhar who had also associated with as screen play-dialogue writer in a few films.

The film had 7 songs written by Prem Dhawan which were set to music by Ninu Mazumdar. All the 7 songs were sung by Kaumudi Munshi who married Ninu Mazumdar in 1954. Detailed profiles of Kaumudi Munshi and Ninu Mazumdar are available on her website under Kaumudi Munshi and Ninu Mazumdar respectively.

The year 1954 was an important year in the careers of both Ninu Mazumdar and Kaumudi Munshi. Both of them were associated with two 1954 released films – ‘Teen Tasveeren’ (1954) and ‘Bhai Saheb’ (1954) as music director and the playback singer respectively. In the same year, Ninu Mazumdar married Kaumudi Munshi. Again in the same year, Ninu Mazumdar took ‘voluntary retirement’ from the Hindi film industry and joined All India Radio, Bombay as Light Music Producer and worked in that capacity for over 20 years. Kaumudi Munshi who is a trained classical singer under the tutelage of thumri queen Siddeshwari Devi, closely worked with her husband for propagating Gujarati light classical music. Along with Avinash Vyas, Ninu Mazumdar is recognised as a pioneer of Gujarati light music based on Hindustani classical raags and the folk music.

I am presenting a very rare song ‘na poochho jee hamse hamaara fasaana’ from TEEN TASVEEREN (1954) sung by Kaumudi Munshi. The song is penned by Prem Dhawan which is set to music by Ninu Mazumdar. From the lyrics, the song appears to have been picturised on a courtesan. The tune of this song was an inspiration for a popular song of a later film which I am not able to recall now.

This is a very rare song in the sense that the song was not available on YT as an individual song. Also, I could not locate this song on Dr. Surjit Singh’ website. So I had to make mp3 clip of the song by ripping-off from the set of songs uploaded by eraksoldies on YT, recorded from a popular pragrammes ‘Purrani Filmon Ka Sangeet’ of Radio Ceylon. From mp3 clip, I have made a video clip of the song and have uploaded the same on YT.

With this song, the film ‘Teen Tasveeren’ (1954) makes its debut in the Blog.

Nice song. Reminded me of ‘Tere pyar ka aasra chahta hoon’.

She could have given Shamshad Begum a run for her money. Wonder why she was not pursed with by other MDs; were they M(A)D?

As I said in my write-up, the tune of this song is an inspiration for a popular song of a later film. At the time of writing the article, I tried to recall the song by randomly searching songs of MD, Ravi and N Dutta of their films of the 1960s. But I could not get the song which I had in my memory but did not know the wordings.

Just now, the memory has tickled and that inspirational song is :

Tumhe paake hamne jahaan paa liyaa hai

In this song, the inspiration is from the antara tune of the song under discussion, while for the song ‘tere pyaar ka aasra chaahta hoon’ indicated by Pratap ji, the inspiration is from the mukhda tune.

And what a fate! Inspirations from the antara and mukhda tunes of a nice but forgotten song of Ninu Mazumdar resulted in two songs becoming popular in the later years.

I agree, the match is much closer with this song. And it seems on both occasions our not-so-popular-now, Rajendra Kumar, was inspired!

Kamath saheb,
Thanks a lot, Sir, for a rare song which in turn makes one recall other popular songs of later films.
By the way, what about the resemblance with the tune of ” Yun hi dil ne chaha tha hansna hansaana, teri yaad to ban gayi hai fasana”?
Regards,
Avadh Lal
