“Sunayna” (1979) was a Rajshree Productions movie. It was produced by Tarachand Barjatya and directed by Hiren Nag. The movie had Rameshwari, the recently discovered sensation of “Dulhan wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) fame in title role. Naseeruddin Shah, Vijayendra, Jagdeep, Pinchoo Kapoor, Gayatri, Anand Balraj, Rajendranath, Mukri, Viju Khote, C S Dubey, Anand Joshi, Murad, Rajan Kapoor, Prakash Mishra, Pardesi, Kirti Kumar, Prem Prakash, Leela Mishra, Shriram Shashtri, Sudarshan Sethi, Amal Sen, Hansni, Kavita, Sulochana, Birbal, Tito, Sikandar e Azam etc were also there in the movie.
The story of the movie was inspired from Charlie Chaplin’s “City lights” (1931).
Ranchi, where I stayed at that time had the forerunners of today’s multiplexes in 1970s itself. One was Sujata, that had two movie halls in it called Sujata and Mini Sujata. Then another multiplex opened quite close to my college in 1978-79 also boasting of two movie halls called Vasundhara and Mini Vasundhara. “Sunayna”(1979) was released in Mini Vasundhara and I watched this movie in the afternoon bunking the afternoon practicals in my college. 🙂
I quite loved watching the movie. The songs were quite hummable, and that was especially the case for the title song viz. Sunayna sunayna..aaj in nazaaron ko tum dekho aur main trumhe dekhte huye dekhoon.
In this movie, Naseeruddin, though innocent, finds himself behind bars. He is desperate to come out of jail for the sake of Sunayna, the visually impaired leading lady whose eyes are to be operated so that she could see. Jagdeep playing a fellow jailbird of Naseeruddin Shah tries hard to help Naseeruddin Shah escape out of jail. Instead of Naseeruddin Shah, Jagdeep finds himself out of the jail. And from then onwards Jagdeep tries very hard to go back inside the jail, but to no avail. 🙂 Jagdeep was the show stealer in this movie as far as I was concerned. 🙂
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. I am surprised to note that this movie had only four songs in it ! Had I known about it earlier, I would have discussed all the four songs long back.
Better late than never. Here is the fourth and final song from “Sunayna”(1979) to appear in the blog. This song is the first song of the movie and it can be described as the introduction song sung by the ledaing lady. The song is sung in a characteristically sweet voice by Hemlata. Lyrics by Ravindra Jain are quite nice. Ravindra Jain is the music director as well.
With this song, “Sunayna”(1979) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

many thanks for the post and this song. I think I have watched some part of this movie on television long back, but don watched the full movie and neither remember it correctly now. I too like the songs of this movie.
Congratulations on covering all songs of this movie ‘Sunayna-1979’ and its joining to the “list of movies-all songs covered” 🙂
