“Shama”(1946), not to be confused with “Shama”(1961) was directed by Adi F Kika, Rustam Khambata and K A Mazid for Minerva Movietone, Bombay. The movie had Mehtab, Wasti, Abu Bakar, Anwari, Prakash, Amir Banu, Sadat ali, Chanda Bai, Zafri Begam etc in it.
The story of film Shama-46, as given by our beloved inhouse encyclopeadia, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, is:
Nawab Jabbar lost his wife Anjuman Banu, whom he loved very much. He could never forget her and was reluctant to remarry. But due to the pressure of his mother he marries Noor Banu- an orphan brought up by her uncle. Though Noor tries every way to please and win over him, Nawab always remembered Anjuman only.
One day a stranger meets Noor Banu and shows a love letter written by Anjuman banu- Nawab’s first wife to her lover-Anwar, in USA. Noor is shocked. She does not want the Nawab to know this truth that his beloved wife was not faithful to him and loved somebody else. Noor banu buys all letters with all her money. When she is burning those letters, the Nawab enters the room, reads a half burnt letter and misunderstands that Noor is not loyal to him.
Noor Banu is expelled from the house. She is pregnant. After spending lot of miseries and difficulties, she gets employed by a person, who is none other the ex-lover of Anjuman, Anwar.
When Anwar comes to know all the troubles Noor took to save Nawab’s faith, he is repentant. He goes to Nawab and tells all the truth. Nawab is very sorry about Noor Banu. He brings her back with honour. By now she has delivered a son too. All is well that ends well.
The movie had ten songs in it according to HFGK. As many as eight songs from the movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the ninth song from “Shama”(1946) to appear in the blog. The only detail given by HFGK about this song is that it is penned by Shewan Rizvi. The singer is not mentioned. The uploader mentions Zeenat Begam as the singer with chorus. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the voice.
The picturisation shows Mehtab (playing Noor Bano) working as a teacher and singing this song to her pupils in a class room, with the children also singing in chorus.
This is the ninth and penultimate song from “Shama”(1946) to appear in the blog. That leaves another song viz. “wah chal diye phir yaad kaleje mein laga ke”. No details are given in HFGK about this song which makes me to believe that this song was only available in the movie and its records were not made. So we will have to be satisfied with the nine available songs of the movie, till this elusive final song of “Shama”(1946) somehow gets discovered in future.
Song-Khudaaya teri hai ye kaisi khudaai (Shama)(1946) Singer-Zeenat Begam , Lyrics-Shewan Rizvi, MD-Ghulam Haider
Lyrics
khudaya teri hai ye kaisi khudaai
kahin aisho ishrat
kahin hai ghazaai
khudaaya teri hai ye kaisi khudaai
kahin aisho ishrat
kahin hai ghazaai
khudaaya teri hai ye kaisi khudaai
kahin aisho ishrat
kahin hai ghazaai
kahin nematen tere dar pe mili hain
kahin pet khaali to aankhen bhari hain
kahin reshmi jode tan pe saje hain
kahin eed ke din bhi kapde phate hain
kahi eed ke din bhi kapde phate hain
kahin pyaar par pyaar maa baap ke
ae ae ae ae ae
kahin pyaar par pyaar maa baap ke
kahin maa ka gham
baap ki hai judaai
kahin maa ka gham
baap ki hai judaai
kahin aisho ishrat
kahin hai ghazaai
khudaaya teri hai ye kaisi khudaai
kahin aisho ishrat
kahin hai ghazaai
ae khuda aa
tu sabka hai khuda
tu sabka hai khuda
kahin oonche mahlon mein raaten suhaani
zabaan par kahin dard-o-gham ki kahaani
ae khuda aa
tu sabka hai khuda
kahin daulaten paa ke shikwe huye hai
kahi bhookh mein tere sajde huye hain
kahin bhookh mein tere sajde huye hain
ghareebon pe bhi gar ye hota karam m m m m
garibon pe bhi gar ye hota karam
to rokar tujhe yoon na dete duhaai
to rokar tujhe yoon na dete duhaai
kahin aisho ishrat
kahin hai judaai
khudaaya teri hai ye kaisi khudaai
kahin aisho ishrat
kahin hai ghazaai
khudaaya teri hai ye kaisi khudaai
kahin aisho ishrat kahin hai ghazaai
