Today is 24th December 2016 -92nd birth anniversary of Mohammad Rafi.
At first I thought I would not be able to do a post which does justice to the persona of Mohd Rafi. Even now I am not trying to; all that I am doing is bringing to the blog a song which shows the vocal range that Rafisaab was gifted with. And this is not a super classical song but a fun song which one would normally expect Rafi to sing for Shammi Kapoor. But today’s song is for Shashi Kapoor and one should be excused if there is a feeling of the song being a Shankar- Jaikishan creation. Why? Because the director duo of this song were once music arrangers & assistants for Shankar Jaikishan.
Yes I am talking of Laxmikant -Pyarelal. Laxmikant Pyarelal made their debut in 1963 in “Parasmani” and their association with Mohd. Rafi was on track. Rafi saab’s last song was also for Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s “Aas Paas” in 1980. But again today’s song is not as new as 1980 but slightly older; the song is only 50 years old; the movie was released in 1966.
The lyricist is Rajinder Krishan. The situation of the song is very serious. A “Bhookh Hartal” accompanies this song. There is a marching band playing rhythm with exactly eight supporters for the hartal. The song culminates when a bucket which is used to throw water on the “hartallies” (hope there is such a word in English 😉 falls on the hero and he gives a very rousing “bhaashan” (speech) before being carried away by the supporters.
Through the song we have an uncomfortable Omprakash, Rajasree and Kalpana. But the people who are enjoying the situation the most are the bandwaalas, and Shashi Kapoor dances like never before or never ever. (I don’t think we need mention which movie this song is from)
P. S. Hope on hearing this song the general reaction is “how come this song is coming in after 12700+ songs; ASAD is such a place where such wonders keep happening. Remember the song which came at payadaan number 12700 of the blog!!??
Without more delay here is the song on Rafisaab’s 92nd Birth aniversary.

Wow.. no comments for this song? That is surprising :). This movie is a remake of the Tamil Super Hit movie “Kadhalikka Neramillai” starring Ravichandran in the role essayed by Shashi Kapoor in Pyar Kiye Ja. This song is “Vishwanathan Velai Vendum” in Tamil. Nagesh plays the role of the son, which is played by Mehmood in Hindi. Awesome movie by Sridhar. Must watch!
