“Rasta”(1947) was directed by Har Prasad for Fazli Brothers, Bombay. This obscure “social” movie had a starcast of Mayadevi, Abdul Latif, Shahida, Ameena, Razi, Zaki, Wazir Mohammad Khan, Anwar, Anwari, Ismat sultana, Abbas, Sharbat Ali etc. Most of these names ring no bells.
According to HFGK, there are six songs in the movie. Singers of these songs are not mentioned.
Song number 1 and 6 of the movie have the same mukhda viz “Nayi bahaaren aayin” which suggests that they could be two parts of the same song, though their record numbers differ.
This song is available in public domain for last few years. Listening to this song, one is pleasantly surprised to discover that the song is sung by Geeta Dutt and it happens to be one of her earliest songs.
The movie had two lyricists, viz. Raziuddin and Arsh Haideri, but the breakup of the songs between them is not known.
Music is composed by Zafar Khursheed.
So here is this song from “Rasta”(1947). It is the first song from this movie to appear in the blog.
