‘Raja Harishchandra’ (1952) was produced by CM Trivedi and directed by Raman B Desai for Trivedi productions. The movie had Prem Adeeb and Sumitra Devi in lead roles, playing Raaja Harishchandra and his wife Taramati respectively. The movie also had Pravin Kumar, Gope, Moni Chatterji etc. in it.
The movie had six songs in it. Three of the songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the fourth song from ‘Raja Harishchandra’ (1952) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Rafi. Husnlal Bhagatram are the music directors. As per the Geet Kosh, the songs of this film are written by four songwriters – Bharat Vyas, Ramesh Gupta, Gulshan Jalaalabaadi and Qamar Jalaalabaadi. However, the lyricist of the individual songs are not identified.
This is a philosophical song that is performed on screen by an old brahmin, as Raja Harishchandra and his family are shown suffering in this well known mythological tale of the satyawaadi raaja. Prem Adeeb and Sumitra Devi are visible in the picturisation of this song. The actor playing the role of the old brahmin singing this song is Bipin Gupta.
