“Afsaana” (1966) was a Devi Movietones presentation. It was produced by Dilip Mukherji and directed by Brij Sadanah. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Padmini, Pradeep Kumar, Jagdeep, Helen, Anwar Hussain, Tuntun, JeevanKala, Master Khaliq, Jillani, Amrit Rana, Amar, Ted Lyons and His Cubs etc in it.
The movie had six songs in it. Two of these songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the third song from “Afsaana” (1966) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Lata. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.
The song is picturised on Padmini who is shows lip syncing this joyous song while driving a car and going through roads that appear quite empty. we are talking of 1966 when Indian roads indeed were empty with very few people owing cars. Even owning two wheelers was considered a sign of luxury and privilege those days.
One may enjoy the picturisation, but one is not advised to handle the steering wheel like Padmini ! She is shown grabbing the steeling wheel with one hand, and she keeps rotating the steering wheel even on straight road. 🙂 If ladies get inspired to drive watching Padmini them most pedestrians will run for cover, that is for sure. 🙂
The car is also shown going through a bridge over a river. This portion of the scene somehow reminded myself of Bogibeel bridge, India’s longest rail cum road bridge over the mighty Brahmputra river that was inaugurated recently (on 25 december 2018). I would dearly love to talk about that bridge in one of my future writeups. For now, let us enjoy this road song from “Afsaana” (1966)
