Eid ul Azha mubarak ho, to all friends and readers.
It is generally believed that faith and logic are two different things. What is faith? Basic premise of faith would be the belief in God. The conviction that there is a Supreme Power who holds the strings of all things in the universe. After all the world is a stage and we all are actors. Shakespeare said it, but it is nothing but the truth. All of us are here for a set number of days, playing our designated roles, doing things we are destined to do, amassing good deeds and bad deeds. As we complete the life circle and leave this mortal world, the soul does go somewhere, where else it will go but to the creator? Logic has no option but to agree that the creator is in best position to answer the question, what is the purpose of creation? If there was no creator, nothing makes sense in the whole existence. Science can give answers till a certain point and that is that. Logic starts where science gives up. And sound logic points to God, the Creator, the Sustainer, the one who says “be” and it is.
I quote here some of the verses from the Glorious Quran.
“O Mankind, indeed we have created you male and female, and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you, in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, ALLAH is (all) knowing and (well) acquainted.” – 49:13
“And (O Muhommad) say: My Lord forgive and have mercy, for you are the best of all who show mercy.” – 23:118
“O mankind, there has come to you, a convincing proof (Prophet Muhammad) from your Lord and we send down to you a manifest light (this Quran).” – 4:174
“And whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] himself.” – 27:92
“And for those who fear Allah, He will make their path easy.” – 65:4
“Allah never changes the condition of people until they change what is in themselves.” – 13:11
“And put thy trust in Allah. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.” – 33:3

These ‘Aayaat’ are part of different Surah (Chapters) in the Quran, revealed at different times to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) (570-632 CE), during his Prophethood years (610-632 CE). Mohammed (PBUH) was unlettered with no formal education, and had rarely traveled outside of Makkah, before his migration (Hijraah) to Madinah. All ‘Aayaat’ of the Holy Quran were revealed to him, via the Angel Jibraeel (AS) at different times and in context of different situations. They were delivered as signs and guidance. These ‘Aayaat’ were then related by the Prophet (PBUH) to his companions (Sahaba), who recorded them in writing. All of these ‘Aayaat’ were recorded in the Prophet’s life time. It was collated/arranged in a meticulous way, in the form of different Surah’s of the Quran during the reign of Hazrat Abu-Bakr (RA) (573-634 CE), the first Khalifa, in the present compilation. Hazrat Umar (RA) had a great contribution in this process. There is great detail available about how the procedure was done, with verification of at least 2 witnesses that the Aayat is indeed written down in the presence of the Prophet. Different Surah’s are also classified as ‘Makkih’ and ‘Madnih’, those revealed before migration to Madinah and after.
How simple and easy, is the faith and the true path, can be discerned in these quotes. How wise is the counsel, for all situations? It answers some of the basic questions bothering the mankind, with intellectuals, philosophers, thinkers having scratched their heads for all these millennia. I have tried to collate them in an order, so it is in the order of creation, faith, trust, thankfulness, the true way of living, easy way of functioning as a creation, hope, the hereafter, the quest for heaven, how it is near and then the last one speaks of the wife of one (Pharoah-who denied the existence of Allah and declared himself as God) can ask (pray) for the highest level in Jannah (Paradise). It means, its available for everyone, one only has to seek it and ask for it, whatever and whoever you are. This may not be the best way of saying it, and if I have erred, may Allah (SWT) forgive me.
A brief definition of Jannah with a prayer:
Jannah, where there will be no sickness, no pain, no difficulty, no separation, no loss.
Jannah, its beauty such that no mind could even ever comprehend.
Jannah, where those you love are waiting for you.
Jannah, where your Allah is waiting for you.
Jannah, which is never ever going to end.
Remind yourself that this is the decree of Allah and in his decisions is hidden kindness. Remind yourself that it is not just going to be okay, but it is going to be worth it.
Dear heart, please just remind yourself that your Allah is with you. Please don’t ever forget that.
Your Allah is with you. Your Allah will never leave you.
He knows of your condition. He is aware of your struggle.
And not a single moment of this going by unrewarded.
Allah knows that you are scared, and it is okay to be scared.
Keep trusting your Allah. Don’t lose hope in His mercy. He is right here with you.
Feel it and treasure it.

On a different note, this is what Allama Iqbal has to say:
Sajdon ke ee’waz firdaus mile ye baat mujhe manzoor nahi
Be-laus i’baadat karta hoon banda hoon tera mazdoor nahi
Ee’waz or I’waz means in return of, and ‘Firdaus’ is Jannat/heaven/paradise in persian.
What Iqbal means is :
I am not doing salutations / ibaadat (supplication) and itaa’at (obedience / submission to the will of Almighty), so that you grant me heaven in return. My prayers are pure, as I am your slave and not a paid servant.
This is, but the highest point of devotion, that the pious seek.
One of those pious, righteous, seekers of the divine favour, was Umar Farooq (RA) (584-644 CE). Umar bin Khattab was the second Khalifa of the Khulfa-e-Rashideen. The status of Umar Farooq, as a Sahaba, companions of the Prophet (PBUH), as among the beloved and respected Khalifa, can be ascertained from the fact of his being one of the “Ashra Mubashra”. “Ashra Mubashra” are the 10 exalted ones among the Sahaba, who were given the ‘Good News’ or ‘Glad Tidings’. What would be the ‘Good News’ who have the clear idea of the purpose of creation, life and death? It is the achievement of securing a place in ‘Jannah’. So, by divine declaration, those 10 were given the Good News, that a place is secured in Jannah for them. The magnificent ten include all four Khulfa-e-Rashideen. Umar Farooq (RA)’s significance as a Khalifa and his role in the spread of Islamic empire much beyond the Arabian Peninsula is indisputable and incomparable. One more significant and important contribution of Umar Farooq (RA), is the introduction of Islamic calendar i.e. the Hijri calendar. There is a great deal to learn from his story, for he was one of the major detractors of the Prophet for a long time. But once he accepted that Mohammed is indeed the Messenger of Allah, and came into the fold of Islam, blessed by the Allah (SWT) and rose to great heights that he did.
I have read up a lot in recent days, so that I could give some accurate and concise information in this post. But if I go on, this post will never finish.
So, I will move to the song, which is a non-film song sung by Mukesh. The song is composed by Iqbal and lyricist is Shadaab Minai. Shadaab Minai is probably making a debut here with this song. The song is talking in detail of an incident i.e. a qissa during the reign of Umar Farooq (RA), the second Khalifa.

Dear Partha ji,
A very very interesting set of questions you have raised.
You will recall the film ‘Guide’, and the episode of an American journalist interviewing Raju Swami. The last question that she asks is “What is the place of religion in the modern scientific world?”. Raju Swami responds by saying “I think all science will end in religion.”.
In my early years when I saw this film for the first time as a child, I felt this statement to be funny and untrue. As the years have passed, and yes, I have revisited this film multiple times, my own belief of this very statement has grown into a conviction.
The interesting thing is that the queries you raise are addressed in great details in our scriptures of the Sanatan Dharm.
The multiverses are mentioned in many parts of our theology. In ‘Ramcharitmanas’, Tulsidas ji describes multiverses at more than one occasion. In Baal Kaand, when Mata Kaushalya has the first darshan of the Supreme Lord in the form of a baby, the lines he has written are
देखरावा मातहि निज अद्भुत रूप अखंड।
रोम रोम प्रति लागे कोटि कोटि ब्रह्मंड॥
He writes about envisioning कोटि कोटि ब्रह्मंड when Mata Sati goes to test Bhagwan Ram, and when Kaakbhushundi ji enters into the mouth of Baby Ramchandra ji.
In Bhagwat Gita, in chapter 11 when Arjun has darshan of the Virat Swaroop of the Lord, the description is given in terms of multiple universes and multiple star systems.
In Srimad Bhagwatam, in the 2nd Canto, specifically in chapters 5 to 10, the process of the creation is described. It is stated that multiple universes are created and assimilated just in the inhaling and exhaling of breath by Maha Vishnu. Then Lord Vishnu Himself in the form of Garbhodakshai Vishnu, enters each of the universes and enables the diversity of creation in each one. And then in the form of Kshirodakshay Vishnu, He becomes the vital force within every entity that is created in each of the universes.
The entire creation has only one Supreme Lord or Supreme Force, which is Vishnu. The cycle of creation and assimilation are described in these chapters. The universes appear and disappear, but Lord Vishnu has no beginning, no middle and not ending. He is One God, or One Force that is the cause behind all the causes of creations – सर्व कारणस्य कारणम्.
The same descriptions also tell about the forms of life that are different and superior to the human form. Each of these forms has their own worlds and planets. The description of the Viraat Swaroop in Bhagwad Gita, and the chapters on creation in Srimad Bhagwatam, talk of forms of life that have not yet even been imagined, but they exist.
Also in the Srimad Bhagwatam, in the 10th Canto, as part of the pastimes of Child Krishna, there is the episode of Child Krishna eating soil (‘मिट्टी’), and when Maa Yashoda forces Him to open His mouth, she is confronted with the vision of multiple universes inside the mouth of Child Krishna.
The queries you raise have detailed answers given in our scriptures – too detailed to be covered in a set of comments here. But the short answers to your queries,
– multiverses exist and are discussed in our books, many millenia before the twentieth century science began contemplating this idea
– there is one Supreme God or Supreme Force that rules over all universes
– there are unimaginable number of life forms both above and below the level of human existence. It is only the arrogance of the human mind that it considers itself to be supreme.

Your effort is a great service that has helped me appreciate the wonderful positivity of the ‘Aayats’ of Quran, and also to understand that there really is so much common in teaching of human and social values by the various different religious philosophies.

As per Mukesh Geet Kosh, this song is written by SHABAB Minai.
His discographies indicate that he was known for writing Islamic songs, some of which have been rendered by Mohammed Rafi, mostly in the 1960s.

Thanks for your informative post.
One must have total, unflinching faith in one’s religion that it does not teach anything harmful to others. It needs courage and conviction to post an article on religion and different faith. I, for one, appreciate your action in doing this.
Currently I am reading Marathi Translation of Quran and I find that half knowledge about Islam is the major cause of the current state in the world today.
I strongly believe that No Religion teaches bad things. The various additions made later in ALL Religions of the world twist the original principles of the Prophets and Religious heads. Most people have no idea of this and then the effects are not very good.
I am impressed with your highly scientific and knowledgeable reply to Partha ji, particularly about the different planes for different entities in the greater Universe.
Human mind has its limitations, in general, about information on Supernatural matters.
Thanks again for posting an interesting article and providing some glimpses on Quranic verses.

Dear All,
Our Broadband Services were down in Goa due to incessant rains.
First, to repeat Arun ji’s words, kudos to Mrs Nahm ji for a thought provoking Post on a Subject hardly related to Hindi Music. It sparked off discussions and details which were thought provoking and informative, to say the least.
About Urdu/Arabic language (and literature), I am a devoted Fan of Nahm ji and like the way she painstakingly explains nuances of the language making it so easy for us to understand. As we all know, almost 90% of the so called Hindi Songs are actually in Urdu or heavily dependent on Urdu.
Most of us yearn to know the meaning of the difficult Urdu words, for that is the only way one can grasp the true meaning of the song.
My humble request to Nahm ji – please keep them coming. Your “Shabd Kosh” beats all others.
Last but not the least, a big THANK YOU to our dear Atul ji, for giving us a platform where we can not only discuss Music in general, but abstruse Subjects such as Quantum Theory and Multiverses.
Maybe, some day in the not too distant future, we can discuss the controversial topic about Soul – does it really exist?

Dear Nahm ji,
You have touched upon a very “touchy” topic. Is Science greater than Religion? There will be many opinions on this, but it is fair to state that Religion begins where Science stops. As you have stated, Science can only explain things up to a point. Beyond that, we have to assume that there is/are Superior beings who set the whole process of creation in motion.
Of late Science, aided by advances in Technology such as Deep Space Telescopes, have observed that the Universe as we know it is not constant but ever expanding and expanding at a phenomenal rate.
Without going deep into Physics and Chemistry of Galaxies and Nebulae, Scientists are homing into the Theory that there are more than one Universe out there. Multiverse is a term being used freely. Knowledge is not only what we know, but also all that we do not know right now but may know at a later date. True knowledge acknowledges the unknowable.

If there is more than one Universe, is it possible that there is more than one Creator?
Sounds outlandish? So did Jules Verne when he broached the subject of space travel back in 1865.
Taking it a step further, if stars and galaxies can be born and can die, so can an entire Universe. Which means Big Bangs are happening all over the place in deep space. If we are born in, say, Universe A, is it possible that we can be reborn in, say, Universe K?
Or is it that one God controls only one Universe, with no interference from the other Gods who rule over other Universes.
And with so many Universes and so many Gods, is there a Supreme God who rules over the entire complex?
And who is to say that Humans are the ultimate in the Evolution chain? There may be superior beings with infinite intelligence, not only in inaccessible corners of our Universe, but in the other Universes too!

Your detailed comment is also much thought provoking. The infitesimal nature of creation, is there to see all around us. It is there in this world and it is there in the universe and also universes. By the same logic, the pattern is there in the infinite spaces too. It is seen in the Virus, which has the capacity to multiply, which is incalculable, and still be invisible.
Who is to say that there is no truth in the existence of the worlds of Jinn and the worlds of Angels ? Since they also may in a plane of their own. True, we cant see them, but we couldn’t see a virus hundred years ago.
And who is to say that the ever expanding universes in the space are not the layers and levels of heaven and hell, described in various religions. No one alive has yet found, where the soul goes or what happens to it, after one has passed away.
Space travel, concepts are there is religious texts and they point to different time dimensions and concepts of fraction of a second.
Infinite possibilities to explore. Nothing is ever the starting point or the end point in seeking knowledge in the fascinating creations.
