Hullo Atuldom

Heard this song today in the noon program of Vividh Bharati -Desh Ki Surili Dhadkan (the channel’s tagline). And immediately recalled a 2001 release which featured the off-springs of the actors from the above song. ‘Farz’ from which today’s trigger happened is 54 years old, the off-springs of the actors are themselves 44 and 40..everything seems like yesterday but all things that I mentioned are decently in the PAST. Even a movie that released in 2001 is 20 years old, ooh!!!

I am talking of “Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai” which was directed by Satish Kaushik, written by Rumi Jaffery, songs were by Sameer and Anu Malik. Its cast included Kareena Kapoor, Rinke Khanna, Tusshar Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Dalip Tahil, Alok Nath, Vrajesh Hirjee, Himani Shivpuri, Dinesh Hingoo etc.

I have not seen the movie as a whole but vaguely recall that the story revolved around a sensitive young adult Karan (Tusshar Kapoor) who frequently skips college. Despite his poor academic performance, he displays many other talents. He is clever, an excellent musician, and plays in a band. His father constantly expresses his disappointment in him which often leads to Karan having outbursts of frustration and anger. One day in a deserted street, he lays eyes on Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) for the first time and falls in love with her. Following this brief acquaintance, he looks all over for her but fails to find her. He slowly begins to lose hope in his quest, stops playing music and decides to move to another city with his uncle. While on his way there, his car breaks down, and he is forced to hitch a ride. To his amazement, he finds Pooja in the driver’s seat. As they introduce themselves, an accident occurs when a truck collides with their car, which subsequently falls into a valley. Karan and Pooja find themselves hanging from a cliff, and even though Karan manages to haul Pooja back up the steep cliff, he loses his grip and falls into the ravine.

When Pooja regains consciousness, she assumes responsibility for Karan’s death and offers to help in the search for his body. Meanwhile, Karan has survived the fall but is seriously injured and unconscious. He is found by a man who takes him to the hospital and soon after, Karan is reunited with his family. As he recovers, he reflects on how he should have confessed his love to Pooja in the few moments they were together. He also begins to focus on his education instead of his music. In time, Pooja arrives at his doorstep to apologize and offers her friendship. They become good friends and then Pooja tells Karan that she must leave for the United States for further studies. Devastated, he finally confesses his love for her. Pooja feels the same way and cannot deny her feelings for Karan, and promises that she will return to him once she completes her education. Karan agrees to patiently wait for her.

September 20th is the birthdate of Kareena Kapoor. The fifth generation of the Kapoor Khaandan, only the third girl from the clan to enter showbiz- the other two being Sanjana Kapoor (Shashi Kapoor’s daughter) and Karisma Kapoor. The younger daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita. A few other caps also fit her dainty head- cousin to Ranbhir Kapoor, wife of Saif Ali Khan, daughter-in-law to Sharmila Tagore. She is a recipient of 6 filmfare awards beginning with award for best debut for her role in ‘Refugee’ (2000). She is considered to be a style icon and has also competent in enacting a variety of characters as we have see in ‘Chameli’, ‘Yuva’, ‘Dev’, ‘Fida’, ‘Aitraaz’ -all in 2004, each character different from the other. She has been paired opposite most of the heroes of that period- Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Shahid Kapoor, and the Khans viz. Salman, Shahrukh, Aamir, Saif. She has also acted in a few multi-heroine movies. She says she is a huge fan of the (late) Sridevi.

With this song “Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai” (2001) makes its debut. This song is in the voices of Preethi, Pinky and Babul Supriyo. Preethi and Pinky are sisters who were very popular in the late 90s and at the turn of the millennium. I recall that a song, picturised on Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta, rendered by these sisters was very popular among school children and youngsters in that period.

Happy Birthday Bebo, I mean, Kareena.

Song-Maine koi jaadoo nahin kiya (Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai)(2001) Singers-Preeti, Pinky, Babul Supriyo, Lyrics-Sameer, MD-Anu Malik

Lyrics

ankhiyon ne raat kya jaadu kiya
kya jaadu kiya
kya jaadu kiya
ankhiyon ne raat kya jaadu kiya
kya jaadu kiya
kya jaadu kiya
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
tuhi mere peechhe aaya piya
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya aa
tuhi mere peechhe aaya piya
ankhiyaan milaake toone dil ko churaaya
loota loota loota mera jiya oh o o
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
toohi mere peechhe aaya piya
ankhiyaan milaake toone dil ko churaaya
loota loota loota mera jiya oh o o
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
toohi mere peechhe aaya piya

shokh haseena khushbu waali
chaand bhi tujh pe marta
itni haseen hoon chaand bechara aur bhala kya karta
chaand ki baaten chaand pe chhodo
apni baat bataao

bin bole har baat samajh lo
yoon na paheli bujaao
sona sona
main hoon sona

itna kehdo o occurs
meri hona

ankhiyaan milaake toone dil ko churaaya
loota loota loota mera jiya oh o o
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
toohi mere peechhe aaya piya
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya aa aa
tuhi mere peechhe aaya piya

maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
toohi mere peechche aaya piya

is mehfil mein mere dil mein
kisne aag lagaayi
aag lagaane waali
tujhe tadpaane waali
mujhko nazar na aayi
chham chham paayal kyun bajti hai
mujhko zara samjhaao

baat samajhni hai jo tum ko
pass mere aa jaao
chhoona chhoona bainyya gori
dil tu de de chori chori

ankhiyaan milaake tune dil ko churaaya, loota loota loota mera jiya oh o o
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya aa aa
toohi mere peechche aaya piya

ankhiyon ne raat kya jaadu kiya
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
kya jaadu kiya
kya jaadu kiya
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
toohi mere peechche aaya piya
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya aa aa
toohi mere peechche aaya piya
ankhiyaan milaake toone dil ko churaaya
loota loota loota mera jiya oh o o
maine koi jaadu nahin kiya
