Hullo Atuldom
On 30th May 2021 we had a post to the song from the film “Ye Teraa Ghar Ye Meraa Ghar” (2001) – a film that highlighted the problems a house-owner faces when he wants his, long-time tenant, to vacate his house so that the owner can sell the house & solve his financial debts.
Recently, I saw a film with a similar storyline, that had released in 1986. This was “Kirayadar” which was produced by B.R. Chopra (22/04/1914 – 05/11/2005 & directed by Basu Chatterjee (10/01/1930 – 04/06/2020). The dialogues & screenplay were also by Basu Chatterjee. The story of the film was written by Mayah Balse. Music was composed by Bappi Lahiri (27/11/1952 – 15/02/2022) & Hasan Kamal was the lyricist. The songs were in the voices of Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor (09/01/1934 – 27/09/2008) & Mohammad Aziz (02/07/1954 – 27/11/2018).
Raj Babbar, Padmini Kolhapure, Utpal Dutt, Vidya Sinha, Pinchoo Kapoor, Arun Mathur, CS Dubey, Ranjana Sachdev, Subbiraj, Paintal, Manmauji etc. were in the cast.
Vidya Sinha & Padmini are the tenants in a flat owned by Lucknow based Utpal Dutt who has a son – Raj Babbar. Raj Babbar gets a job in Bombay & on his father’s suggestion he decides to stay in his own flat & his father sends a letter to his tenants informing them of his son’s arrival. But postal delay causes Raj Babbar reaching the destination before the letter. Further confusion occurs when Padmini see Raj Babbar following her into a bus, get off at the same stop as her & also entering the same building. She assumes that he is a no-gooder and gives him a piece of her mind with ample support from her neighbours. He is saved from further ‘public dhulaayi’ (for want of a better term in English for this expression) by the arrival of the postman & the letter.
Vidya Sinha initially allows him to live in a room of the flat, the mother & daughter take a liking to him etc. Now, Padmini works at some office & also is a teacher for small kids at some playschool. On the advice of some colleague, she asks Raj Babbar (or helps him, don’t recall which) to find a lodge to stay. Meanwhile the father arrives on the scene & misreads the situation. Some friend of his advices him to start legal proceedings to evacuate the tenants. All these give rise to many comic situations, which Basu Chatterjee films were known to have.
Today’s song is from this film. It is a song that is on the lines of “ichak-daanaa-beechak-daanaa-daane-oopar-daanaa” from ‘Shree 420’. It is in the voice of Asha Bhosle. It has Padmini (whose birthday it is on 1st November) playing with the children of the playschool.
She began as a child actor in 1974/75 in films like ‘Ek Khiladi Baawan Patte’, ‘Ishk Ishk Ishk’ etc. She was appreciated for her role in ‘Insaaf Ka Tarazu’ in 1980 when she was only 15 & won a filmfare best supporting actress award too. She graduated to playing grown-up characters with ‘Zamaane ko Dikhaana hai’, ‘Prem Rog’, ‘Vidhaata’ etc. The last time I saw her in a film was ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’ in 2013 & ‘Panipat’ in 2019 (both on satellite television). In ‘Phatak Poster…..’ she played Shahid Kapoor’s mother and did justice even there. Occasionally she is seen on reality shows on the various channels alongwith her friend Poonam Dhillon.
Here is wishing this sweet lady a very happy birthday.
