#Singer Mohd Rafi’s Remembrance Day 31st July’2024#
In this post I am presenting a Rafi song from the movie ‘Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thhi’ (1970). This song is picturised on actor Jagdeep. Music lovers are well aware that there are many well-known songs sung by Rafi Sb for actor Jagdeep. Some prominent songs among them that I vividly remember are “Chali Chali Re Patang Meri Chali Re“, “Hum Panchhi Ek Daal Ke“, and “Paas Baithho Tabeeyat Bahal Jaayegi” and many others. In the later years i.e. from the year 1980 Rafi Sb lent his voice to actor Jagdeep in the movie ‘Phir Wohi Raat’ for the song “Aa Gaye Yaaro Jeene Ke Din” which I had presented on this blog earlier. There is long list of Rafi songs for Jagdeep and we will try to discuss the total list here in future posts on the blog.
Today’s song which is composed by RD Burman has lyrics by Rajinder Krishan. This is a nice hummable song about the changing times in the society. The lyrics talks about changing times in the society when manual labor, till then looked down upon would be looked up with respect. evils where being challenged. The song takes a dim view of money-lenders, black marketeers, and exploiters of laborers.
‘Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ was directed by V Madhusudana Rao for Vasu Films, Madras. It was produced by Vasu Menon. It had Sanjay Khan, Leena Chandavarkar, Jagdeep, Anupama, Manmohan Krishna, Sundar, NS Bedi, Sharma, Pratima Devi, Bilkis, Shamim, Lalita Pawar, Shashikala, Om Prakash, Madhumati, Jayshree T. As per information available the story of this movie was written by Barampuram Kollady. Its dialogues were written by Rajinder Krishan who also penned down the lyrics for the seven songs in this movie.
Music of this film was composed by RD Burman. Singers for the songs in this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Suman Kalyanpur, Manna Dey, Mohd Rafi, and Usha Mangeshkar.
‘Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ is the movie of ‘social genre’ and as per information available on online sources it deals with the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law as the title of the movie suggests. We will be discussing more about this movie in future posts with the songs of this movie here.
