Mukesh and His Composers – 32
We continue the series with composer Vishnu Khanna. He seems to have composed music for only two films. Both these films have been introduced on the blog with one song each as follows.
- “Poorab Chaloge Chaloongi, Paschim Chaloge Chaloongi“ – Patni (1970), a solo by Suman Kalayanpur which has been covered by Sudhir ji
- “Kaisi Shaam Suhaani Aayi Re“ – Pasand Apni Apni (1972), a solo by Rafi saab covered by Satyajit Rajurkar ji
The composer continues to remain obscure. No information seems to be available on him other than what is already known.
As far as Mukesh’s collaboration with him is concerned, there is a solitary song from his second and probably last film ‘Pasand Apni Apni’ (1972). And for obvious reasons, the post contains no table. The cast and plot of the film have already been briefed in the song “Kaisi Shaam Suhaani Aayi Re” that has been covered. Here is a short note from the post by Satyajit ji
. . . this is a movie about a young Indian settled in England, in whose life come two young Indian women, who are exactly identical, one as a girl friend about to marry him and the other, as his wedded wife and mother of his child (son). But false sense of cultural values on his part deprives him of both these, for the time being, and ultimately one takes away the child and the other keeps the man himself.
The songs of this movie were written by Amar and Shiv Kumar Saroj and were composed by an unknown composer, Vishnu Khanna. Some of you may remember Shiv Kumar Saroj from his days as an announcer at Radio Ceylon’s Hindi services. Saroj wrote lyrics for many movies such as Talaash (1952), Zindagi Aur Hum (1962), Naag Mandir (1966), Pratima Aur Payal (1977), College Girl (1978), etc.
Talking about the composer Vishnu Khanna, it looks like he composed songs for only two movies – Patni (1970) and this one.
This Mukesh song was offered to me by Satyajit ji who wanted to know if he can send a post on it or should offer to me. I requested for the latter and here I am with due thanks to him.
The full film including Mukesh’s solo is available on the net, but the beautiful song is abruptly made to disappear at the fag end and has some dialogues introduced where the two wrangling parties seemingly reconcile and even say in unison “hum kabhi jhagada nahin karenge”. Thankfully this is not the title of the film. 😊
The songs of the film have been released on Polydor’s 45 rpm, EP but this solo by Mukesh is not on the disc containing 2 songs each on both sides. I have requested the editors to trace the audio. Sudhir ji has uploaded the full audio of this song from his collection.
