(Kishore Kumar’s 38th ‘Remembrance Day’ 13th October’2024)
Today on 13th October 2024 we are paying our tributes to one of the versatile genius of Hindi Film Industry Kishore Kumar. He passed away on 13th October 1987 at the age of fifty-eight only. He was born on 4th August 1929 at Khandwa and which he was very proud of, and he often happen to mention himself as ‘Kishore Kumar Khandwewala’ in almost all of his stage programs while starting singing there.
For today’s occasion I was specially looking for some of the lesser heard or never heard song of Kishore Kumar. The songs I have presented earlier had song composed by composers Bhola Shreshtha, Chitragupt and Kalyanji-Anandji. So we have so far missing a song composed by R.D Burman in today’s presentation. Kishore Kumar had a long successful and magical collaboration with composer R.D. Burman and without a song composed by Pancham the today’s tribute will remain an incomplete tribute.
So, in this post I am presenting a song composed by R.D. Burman. This song is from a shelved movie titled as ‘Jaan E Jaan’. Music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. This movie is not to be confused with the other movie released in 1983 with the same title as ‘Jaan E Jaan’ (which was earlier titled as ‘Nikammaa’). Music for this ‘Jaan E Jaan-1983’ was also composed by R. D. Burman.
The information for this ‘shelved’ movie is given in the book ‘Pancham (An Anthology of R.D. Burman’s Musical Works’) compiled by Vishwas Nerurkar and assisted by Bishwanath Chatterjee. If one happens to read this book there is a special section titled as ‘undiscovered treasure’ of Pancham’s works. Many of this undiscovered treasure is being recovered and brought on the digital media by the various groups of ‘Pancham Fans’ and also by the recording companies themselves now. As a result of this many unheard songs are now available for our listening pleasure now. There are some gems of songs in this treasure and though I have already noted two other songs I am holding them to get some more information about them.
The movie for the today’s song ‘Jaan E Jaanaa’ was directed by Parvesh Sagar for ‘H.P. Films’. Hasmukh Phuria was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie had Shashi Kapoor, Asha Parekh, Govinda, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Raj Kiran, Gulshan Grover and others. Three songs were recorded for this movie and lyricist for the songs is Indeewar. Music was composed by R.D. Burman. The three songs had the voices of Kishore Kumar (two songs) and Asha Bhonsle (one song).
I am presenting a Kishore Kumar solo accompanied by chorus in this post. Let us listen to enjoy this song which probably would have been lip synced by Shashi Kapoor in the movie, I guess. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the information about this movie and its songs please.
