“Ek Din Kaa Baadshaah-1964” was directed by Jugal Kishore for his home productions ‘Jugal Productions, Bombay’. It was a movie of stunt genre. The cast of this movie included Nishi, Jairaj, Jugal Kishore, Daljeet, Sunder, Mohan Choti, Kammo Tripathi, Madhumati, Majnoo, Nazi, Chandrima Bhaduri, Prakash, Sulochana Chatterjee, Gopal Ralhan, Jerry Massen, Mahendra Prabhu, Om Sharma, Sheela, Desai, Varsha, Rekha, Kishore Sharma, Leela, Mohan, Kathana and others.
The following is the synopsis of the film ‘Ek Din Ka Baadshaah’ condensed and edited by our Sudhir jee from one of the detailed information posts by our in-house encyclopaedia Shri Arunkumar Deshmukh.
“EK DIN KA BADSHAAH” (1964), is a fantasy costume drama produced and directed by Jugal Kishore, under the banner of Jugal Productions. Jugal Kishore had an urge for acting in every film that he produced or Directed. In this movie, he plays the role of the Baadshah. The theme of the film emphasizes that what you see is not the always truth. There are things beyond what meets the eye. Yusuf (Jairaj) is a spoilt son of Amber, a rich businessman in the kingdom. He usually spends his time with friends, enjoying drinks and games. One day while sitting in a pub, drinking with friends, he criticizes the king Aslam Parvez (Jugal Kishore), as to how the king mismanages the affairs of the kingdom and what actually should have been done. Incidentally the king, Aslam Pervez is sitting in disguise right next to him in the pub, and hears this. Next day, Yusuf is summoned to the court. The king makes him the Baadshah for Ek Din. During that one day, Yusuf learns his lesson as he struggles to manage the affairs of the kingdom. At the end of the day, he is rewarded by the king for his intelligence and honesty.
“Ek Din Ka Baadshaah-1964” has eight songs as per list provided in Geet Kosh Vol-IV (1961-1970). Out of these eight songs seven songs are penned by Prem Warbartani and one song is written by Gulshan Bawra. Music is composed by Hansraj Behl. The singers for the songs of this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor, Suman Kalyanpur, Mohd Rafi, Kishore Sharma, Balbir, Surinder Kohli, Kamal Barot, Shamshad Begam, and Miss Vijay. So far, three songs from this movie have been posted on the blog.
Today I am presenting the fourth song from this movie which as per information given in Geet Kosh is a two part song. It is a ‘Qawwaalee song’ having the voices of Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi, Balbir, Kishore Sharma, Surinder Kohli and Miss Vijay. The second part of this song is mentioned as sung by Balbir and Vijay accompanied by chorus or other voices. However I could not find the second part of this song on internet though there is one link of this song here which has some extended audio of this song and it is only the ‘mukhdaa’ of this song repeated again.
We can see that some videos (of songs) of this movie have come up on internet in recent years. Video of the song is also available. We can see Jairaj watching this performance and Nishi, Mohan Choti and others in the picturisation of this song. I see some faces familiar to me but I am unable to identify these artistes by name. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs and identify the artistes performing in this song.
