Hullo Atuldom
“Jeans” (1998) was a Tamil Film that was produced by Ashok Amritraj (the Indian-American athlete & film producer) in collaboration with Murli Manohar & others. It was directed by S. Shankar who usually works in the Tamil film industry beginning as an actor but turning a filmmaker initially as an assistant director & then full-fledged director with “GentleMan” (in Tamil 1993). He has made many successful movies since and some have been either dubbed or remade in Hindi too. He himself remade “Mudhalvan” (1999) into “Nayak-The Real Hero” with Anil Kapoor & Rani Mukherjee in the lead in 2001.
“Jeans” had a cast of Prashanth (in a double role), Aishwarya Rai (in a fake dual role), Lakshmi, Nassar, Senthil, Raju Sundaram and many more from the Tamil film industry.
It was the story of Restaurant owner & NRI Nassar’s quest for a BAHU (bride) for his twin sons with a pre-condition that the girls too, preferably, should be twins. This, he felt, would help in having a harmonious family life. The search lands them in India -Madras (now Chennai); to the house of Krishnaveni (Lakshmi). Actually, Krishnaveni, in the company of her grandson & granddaughter, has already met Nassar & family in The USA when she had gone there for a surgery & the twin boys had been very helpful. The granddaughter (Aishwarya) falls in love with one of the twins. But on getting to know the condition that the father has set, Krishnaveni fibs that she has another granddaughter who is growing away from the family for some weird reason. Krishnaveni introduces her second granddaughter when the NRI family reaches India.
The story goes through a few twists before we have today’s song wherein the two girls are shown to be giving a joint dance recital. This song is a tribute to the modern day digital world as it uses Computer Aided Technology (I am sure there is a specific term for this branch of technology) to create the illusion of the two dancing girls.
The songs of the film were composed by A R Rehman. He used Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Sadhana Sargam, Kavitha Paudwal, Sukhwinder Singh, Sangeetha Rajeswaran, Hariharan & Anuradha Sriram for the dubbed Hindi songs. The lyricist was Javed Akhtar.
On my recent road-trip to Rameswaram, from Palghat, the cab driver had a Pen-Drive full of A.R. Rehman’s Tamil songs and I heard many of the songs from the 1990s after many years. Songs from “Jeans” were in that set. I had made a mental note to bring songs from this film on the blog. Today is the best date to do this. It is Aishwarya Rai’s birthday. She was born in 1973 in Mangalore & was crowned Miss World in 1994. She made her debut in a Tamil film directed by Mani Ratnam in 1997. Her Hindi film debut came with “Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya” also in 1997.
So here is a Computer generated Double-Role song sung by Kavitha Krishnamurthy. It has Aishwarya Rai having Prashanth, Nassar & Senthil as audience and Lakshmi (Krishnaveni) being the director of the whole show with S. V. Shekhar & Janaki Sabesh as the confused parents of Aishwarya Rai alias Madhumitha & Vaishnavi (the fake twin).
Happy Diwali & a musical prosperous New Samvat to all the followers of the blog.

Song-Kehta hai mera ye dil piyaa (Jeans)(1998) Singer-Kavita Krishnamurthy, Lyrics-Javed Akhtar, MD-A R Rahman
Lyrics
kehta hai mera ye dil piya
koi hai koi hai hi naheen een
koi hai koi hai hi naheen
saaya hai tu
chhaaya hoon main
tu na ho toh main bhi naheen een
tu na ho toh main bhi naheen
choodee jo khanke toh kehte hain khan khan
ghunghroo jo chhanke toh kehte hain chhan chhan
khan khan ho ya phir chhan chhan ho
matlab inka hai jab tak ho do
main bhi hoon tab tak jab tak tum ho
jo sach hai woh tum maan hi lo o
subah ke pal ya shyam ke ho ek do saara ek hi hai
do aankhon se dekhe ham
phir bhi nazaara ek hi hai
dil hain do lekin sanam pyaar ki dhaara ek hi hai
kehta hai mera yeh dil piya
koi hai koi hai hi naheen een
koi hai koi hai hi naheen
suni kahaani hai yeh puraani
hanson ka raaja hanson ki raani
phirte hain ik sang harpal hi
nain mein jab ek neer bharaaye
judwa aankh se neer bahaaye pyaar ki ho mann mein jhal thhal bhi
kehne ko do jism sahi
lekin bas ek naam hain ham
kehne ko ham do sapne hain
lekin ik armaan hain ham
itna pyaar huwa kaise soch ke khud hairaan hain ham
kehta hai mera yeh dil piya
kehta hai mera yeh dil piya
kehta hai mera yeh dil piya
koi hai koi hai hi naheen
koi hai koi hai hi naheen
saaya hai tu chhaaya hoon main
tu na ho toh main bhi naheen
tu na ho toh main bhi naheen
