#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

#Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Debutant Movie)
—————————————
“Agar abhee naa to phir kabhee naa …” that is what I thought on listening to this today’s song. Since I want to see it here on the blog as early as possible, I am sharing it a couple of days after I came across it. This song is from the movie ‘Chor Ho To Aisaa-1978’. The music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. So, this is the third movie after ‘Jeewanmukt-1973’, and ‘Ujaalaa Hi Ujaalaa-1974’ where the music for the movies was composed by R.D Burman and they were missing from the blog till I introduced them here. I was under the impression that all movies, at least from the ‘seventies’’ where music composer was R.D. Burman have already got represented on the blog. That is why it comes as a surprise whenever I come across R.D. Burman of 1970s that are not yet represented in the blog.
“Chor Ho To Aisaa-1978” was directed by Ravi Tandon for ‘N.P. International, Bombay’. It had Shatrughan Sinha, Reena Roy, Pran, Madan Puri, Anwar Hussain, Birbal, Sulochana, Baldev Khosa, Mac Mohan, Shabana, Ranveer Raj, Hareesh, Vandana Shastri, Jankidas, Jagdish Raj, Vikas Anand, Azad, Rajan Kapoor, Master Raju and others. Raza Murad, Bindu and Rajendra Nath had special appearances in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 20.04.1978. This movie has four songs written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed to music by R.D Burman. Asha Bhonsle, Hemant Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi and Manna Dey were the singers for the songs in this movie.
“Chor Ho To Aisaa-1978” seems to be a forgotten movie of those years as I do not recollect to have ever watched it or read about it anywhere. The songs from this movie also seem to be lesser heard songs. This movie has woven around the ‘lost and found’ plot. I have not watched this movie yet, but I am giving below very brief about the story of this movie here after watching some part of this movie.
Jaggu (Anwar Hussain) and Madan Puri (Ram) are friends in crime. Pran Nath (Pran) is a poor but honest person working in a jewelry shop. Jaggu gets a jail term in a crime on the testimony of Pran Nath and he vows to take revenge on Pran Nath by destroying his family. With the help of Ramu, Jaggu conspires a plan where Pran Nath is implicated in the theft in the same jewelry shop where he is working. Pran Nath is arrested by the Police after raiding his house and finding the stolen jewelry from his house. Pran Nath’s son (Master Raju) and his wife (Sulochana) are left shattered after his arrest and later after getting to know that the Police Vehicle carrying Pran Nath and other prisoners had met an accident on the way and all prisoners were killed in the accident.
However, Pran Nath survives in the accident and becomes Arjun Dada to carryout ‘Robin hood type’ activities with a grown ‘black & white’ beard 😊 . (Earlier he used to be a clean-shaven very ‘shareef-insaan’.)
Ramu abducts Pran Nath’s son Sanju and trained him to become a well-known ‘chor’ as ‘Shankar’ i.e. played by Shatrughan Sinha. Pran Nath’s wife (Sulochana) got hit on the road by a car driven by Police Inspector (Jagdish Raj) who took her to his home, and she stayed there as his sister.Sanju alias Shankar is aware that Ramu is the only person who knows about his parents and in the hope of that he keeps him alive though he always fighting with him and always calling him as ‘Buddhe’. 😊
So, one would ask when we already have a ‘chor betaa’ and his ‘baap’ as a ‘choron kaa chor’, and a movie already titled as ‘Chor Ho To Aisaa’ where and what is the scope for the heroine in this movie? So, we have a ‘sub-plot’ where we have the brother Birju (Raza Murad) and a sister (Reena Roy) living in a village peacefully. Birju wants to get his sister married on a ‘grand scale’ (dhoom dhaam se 😊 ). And for this purpose, he needs to earn ‘bahot saaraa paisaa’ for which he comes to city i.e. Bombay. In the city he joins as driver with a ‘company’ but is unaware of the ‘real’ business of those people who are involved in ‘smuggling’. After coming to the city and getting trapped in ‘his master’s business’ 😊 he could not keep his promise of posting letters ‘regularly’ to his sister and his sister Champa (Reena Roy) comes to city to find him. She has her ‘mousee’ in living the city. Incidentally Champa’s Mousee sends Arjun Dada/Pran Nath to receive her at the Railway Station and that is how they get introduced. Before this incident Arjun Dada and Shankar had already got introduced to each other in the case of ‘robbing the robber’ i.e. Arjun Dada robbing Shankar of the money which he gets after cheating as a ‘social worker’ from a donor. Arjun Dada uses this money to help needy, poor and orphaned children always. That is how the story progresses, and incidentally we have Shankar saving Champa from goons and further coming closer to Arjun Dada who is his father, which is disclosed later (only😊).
Pran Nath re-unites with his wife as the same Police Officer’s (Son of the Inspector Jagdish Raj) mousee’ whose son’s ‘lost gold chain’ was recovered by Pran Nath from one of his own team members and returned to him. How the family finally gets united is to be watched in this movie. In this process we have music and songs. So, the first song happens when Jaggu (Anwar Hussain) who has now become Rana Saheb (Jagannath Rana) and ‘managing’ his ‘smuggling’ activities with well connected ‘wafaadaar’ gang members. These members keep him updated of every activity like ‘sharaab kahaan thhikaane lagaayee, gold biscuit consignment ka kya huaa etc etc.’ After discussing these daily reports, he tells his employ that ‘haan dekho, ab mujhe disturb mat karnaa, meraa ek badaa zarooree appointment’. As this conversation we have this song-dance number on the screen where we can see Seema (Bindu) performing on the ‘fresh sounding seduction song’. We also have Rana Saheb (Anwar Hussain) enjoying this ‘zarooree appointment’ there😊
Asha Bhonsle is singer for today’s song written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. This composition of Pancham, as I said above sounds ‘as fresh as composed today’ and the use of various instruments by him only testifies further how genius he was. This song surely deserves to be one of his best compositions.
Enjoy it 😊
With this song this movie ‘Chor Ho To Aisaa-1978’ makes its debut on the blog today…
Editor’s note:-
(1)This movie becomes the 5000th movie whose song is getting covered in the blog.
(2) After I got admitted into College and I got the freedom to watch movies (no questions asked), this was the very first movie that I had watched in June 1978. So this movie started my movie watching spree.
