#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # # Daadaa-1978#
——————————————

If we look at the statistics of the movies released in the decade of seventies i.e., 1971-1980, and the total number of songs, the count as per HFGK is around eight thousand songs from 1327 movies ( including 1243 released movies+ Unreleased movies + movies in other languages of the ‘Hindi Belt’ of India).
Out of these eight thousand plus songs we have so far covered 2586 songs on the blog. That is not even near the half-way mark, and it means that we still have a long way to go to bring all the songs of this decade (1971-980) on the blog.

It would be interesting to know year-wise movies released and movies introduced on the blog, and the movies yet to be introduced on the blog. We are certainly going to have these statistics in the future posts on the blog. Till now we have done this exercise for the years ‘1971’ and ‘1972’.

We might have covered many of the popular songs of this era on the blog and there might also be many ‘surprises’ yet to come on the blog. The remaining songs from such movies i.e., the songs other than the most well-known songs yet to be posted on the blog would also have some ‘surprises’ which we are yet to listen to and enjoy.

For instance, take the case of today’s movie which is ‘Daadaa-1978’. It was one of the successful movies of ‘1979’ (I guess it was released in the theatres in end 1978 or in early 1979. It was passed by Censor Board on 30.11.1978).

Two most well-known songs from this movie which are ‘dil ke tukde tukde karke muskuraa ke chal diye’ and ‘allah karam karna maula tu reham karna’ have been posted on the blog. Ever since, this movie is waiting for its third song to appear on the blog and this wait has become more than ten years long.

Today I am presenting a song from this movie which is a beautiful reminder of the music of the ‘seventies’. I landed on this song via other song from the same movie. When I read the title of this (today’s) song it didn’t ring any bells, but when I listened to the song, I immediately recalled that I had heard this song before. This song was a popular enough song of its days.

I have vague memories of watching this movie with my parents and younger brothers. I didn’t remember this movie completely now except for few of its’ songs. But our favourites then were ‘gaddi jaandi hai chhalaangaa maar di’ and ‘allah karam karna maula tu reham karna’. I remember I didn’t like this song ‘dil ke tukde tukde karke’ then and it was very irritating to hear it on radio or around on loudspeakers. However, this song brought the ‘Filmfare’ award of ‘Best Male Playback Singer to Yesudas and it was on number ten in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala of 1979’.

“Daadaa-1978” was directed by Jugal Kishore for ‘Jugal Productions Combine, Bombay’.
Jugal Kishore was also the producer of this movie.

It had Vinod Mehra, Bindiya Goswami, Shashi Puri, Madhu Malini, Amjad Khan, Indrani Mukherjee, Jayshree T., Jeevan, Seema Deo, Ramesh Deo, Jagdeep, Rajendra Nath, Raza Murad, Satyen Kappu, Vijaya Choudhary, Mohan Choti, Maruti, Mohan Shery, Sheikh, Baby Pallavi, Coka Cola, Ramavatar, Shyam Kumar, Ratan Gaurang, Manmauji and many others.

Story of this movie was written by Dr. Hari Zutshi and screenplay was written by Aryan and Tejnath Zar.
Tejnath Zar also wrote the dialogues for this movie.

Editing of this movie was done by Y.G. Chavan.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.11.1978.

This movie had five songs- all written by five different lyricists viz. Asad Bhopali, Ravindra Jain, Kulwant Jani, Mahendra Dehalvi, Gauhar Kanpuri.
(I think that using the five separate lyricists for five songs surely paid of for this movie as all of them turned out to be good compositions).

Music for this movie was composed by Usha Khanna.

Mohd Rafi, Yesudas, Shailendra Singh, Hemlata, Dilraj Kaur, and Suman Kalyanpur had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Here is the list of songs of this movie.

SNo Song Title Singer/s Lyricist Posted On
01 Gaddi jaandi ae chhalaangaa maardi Rafi, Shailendra Singh, Dilraj Kaur, Hemlata Ravindra Jain
02 Dil ke tukde tukde kar ke muskuraa ke chal diye Yesudas Kulawant Jani 14.07.2009
03 Hamne maana hampe sajan jobanwa bharpoor hai Suman Kalyanpur Mahendra Dehalvi Being covered today
04 Allah karam karna, maula tu reham karna Suman Kalyanpur Gauhar Kanpuri 16.12.2011
05 Bemurawwat tumhe samjhenge zamaanewaale … parde mein koyi Rafi, Shailendra Singh Asad Bhopali

Today’s song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and is a ‘mujra’ song highly enjoyable and having a catchy tune. On screen it is Jayshree T. performing on this song and we can see Amjad Khan and Jeevan and others in the picturisation of this song.

(Incidentally I am coming across many Jayshree T. songs nowadays and have shared some of them recently on the blog 😊 )

This movie also brough a Filmfare award to Amjad Khan in the category of ‘Best Supporting actor’.

However, it was Amjad Khan’s performance which was the highlight of this movie with other ‘ingredients’ like the story, presentation of it on screen, catchy music and with screen presence of other actors like Vinod Mehra, Shashi Puri, Bindiya Goswami, Madhu Malini and others making this movie a perfect ‘blend’ of action, romance, friendship, and entertainment to watch on the big screen. And this movie ranked on number fifteen among the highest grossing Hindi movies of ‘1979’ (as per IMDB).

I am not going into the detail of the story of this movie as Atul ji and Sudhir ji has covered a lot about the movie in their write-ups while presenting the songs ‘dil ke tukde tukde karke muskuraa ke chal diye’ and ‘allah karam karna maula tu reham karna’ on the blog.

Let us now enjoy the today’s peppy number which I think is inspired from a ‘Bhojpuri song’. Lyrics for the today’s song are by Mahendra Dehalvi.

The engrossing voice in the today’s song is of Suman Kalyanpur and music is by Usha Khanna.

Enjoy the entertaining music of the ‘seventies’ 😊 which I am sure will take many of us to down memory lane …

‘PANCHAM-RAFI’ Jodi’s Variety Songs – 8
———————————————————————

(Birthday greetings for – Danny Denzongpa – 25th February)

Today’s song is from the ‘1978’ movie ‘Naya Daur’. This movie had made its debut on the blog on 20.09.2012. However, no song was added to this movie after that one song. In less than eight months the movie will complete a ‘decade’ on the blog after making its debut while still remaining unYIPPEED. 😊

Today’s song is the second song of this movie ‘Naya Daur -1978’ on the blog. It is sung by Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Danny Dengzongpa. I think this must be the only song where Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Danny came together. Since this was the only Rafi song in this movie it is being presented under this series.

‘Naya Daur -1978’ was directed by Mahesh, Bhatt for ‘United Movie Arts, Bombay’. It had Rishi Kapoor, Bhavna Bhatt, Danny Dengzongpa, Farida Jalal, Manda Puri, Paintal, Poornima Ranjeet, Om Prakash, Ghanshyam Roheda, Major Anand, Sharat Saxena, Haider Chaudhary, Vishwa Mehra, Kamal Rai, Leena Das and Oscar.

Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Saprru and Shivraj make a special appearance in this movie. Shashi Kiran and Pinchoo Kapoor make a guest appearance in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.01.1978.

This movie had four songs penned by Anand Bakshi. Music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman.

Here is the list of the songs appearing in this movie-

SNo Song-Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Chalo kahin aur chalte hain Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle 20.09.2012
02 Mujhe doston tum galey se lagaa lo Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Danny Dengzongpa*
03 Paani ke badley pee kar sharaab Kishore Kumar, Danny Dengzongpa
04 O paise waalon bade insaanon Kishore Kumar

As mentioned above today’s song is sung by Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Danny Dengzongpa. On screen it is lip synced by Rishi Kapoor, Farida Jalal, and Danny Dengzongpa respectively.

(HFGK mentions only Rafi and Danny as singers for this song. Also, there is one audio available which does not contain Asha Bhonsle’s antaraa in the song. I am not aware if this was added later.)

I have not watched this movie (and it seems to be unavailable on internet as of now) so can’t say much about it. I would request knowledgeable readers who have watched this movie to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Today 25th February’2022 is the seventy fourth birthday of Danny Denzongpa (born on 25th February’1948).

My very first post on the blog was on Danny Denzongpa in 2013 published on 26th February’2013. In this post I have briefly mentioned about his biography and filmography. So, I would not like to repeat all again here.

Let us wish Danny Denzongpa a ‘very happy birthday’. and a healthy and peaceful life ahead.

We will now listen to today’s song which is a nice song, and it grows on us if we listen to it a few times …

“Trishna”(1978) was produced by G P Sippy and directed by Anil Ganguly for Sippy Films, Bombay. This “social” movie had Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Rakhi, Bindu, Sujit Kumar, Dinesh Hingoo, Preeti Ganguly, Master Raju, Minu Chitnis, Preetam, Vikrant (Romeo), Adi Irani, M Hanif, Bilimoria etc. The movie also had special appearances by Aziz Naazaan, Jayshree T Uma Dhawan, Raza Murad and Dwara Divecha.

This movie was a quickie movie by G P Sippy, after their blockbuster “Sholay”(1975) while they were working on their next blockbuster project “Shaan”(1980).

The movie “Trishna”(1978) was not a movie that would appeal to the movie audiences of those days. And expectedly, the movie sank without a trace. I was one of the few moviegoers who actually watched this movie.

The movie had just three songs, as befits a “different” movie. Two songs from the movie have already been covered. Here are their details:-

Blog Post number Song Date of post Singer (s)
6640 Din ba din wo mere dil se 14 September 2012 Lata
14819 Pam para rum pum 2 January 2019 Kishore Kumar

Here is the third and final song from “Trishna”(1978) to appear in the blog. The song is a qawwaali. It is sung by Aziz Naazaan and chorus. Indeewar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

The song was picturised on Aziz Naazaan and others. Jayshree T and Uma Dhawan are the dancers. Sujeet kumar, Rakhee, Sanjeev Kumar, Bindu,Shashi Kapoor are also seen among the audience.

Lyrics weresent to me by Prakashchandra.

With this song, all the three songs of “Trishna”(1978) are covered in the blog and the movie thus joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.

Lyrics (Provided by Prakashchandra)

gair ki baanhon mein jhool jaayen
saath barson ko yoon bhool jaayen

Hullo Atuldom

“Azaad” (1978) made its debut on the blog in 2014 with this song. The post contains details of the movie and its synopsis.

After four years, on the occasion of Dharam Paaji’s birthday I had sent this song on the blog. Therein I have stated how I came to appreciate Dharmendra the actor, the songs of his which I love etc.

I was looking for possible songs to post for Dharam Paaji’s 86th birthday. I went through all the Dharmendra movies that are on the blog; movies with one or two songs left to attain YYIIPPEEEEhood. Then I looked for popular movies of the ’80s, ’90s and later which featured our favourite actor/ star. I found numerous possible songs but decided to go back to “Azaad”. That is story of how this song find a place on the blog today.

The song is sung by Kishore Kumar, written by Anand Bakshi and tuned by RDB. We see our Dharam Paaji on a journey on Horseback in search of greener pastures, away from his hometown after he promises his bhabhi that he will mend his ways and not get into unnecessary squabbles.

Wishing a very Happy Birthday to our dearest Veeru a.k.a Dharam Paaji. May he be healthy witty and happy with all his family and close people.

Hullo Atuldom

Day 1 of Sharad Navratr. Ashwin Navratr. Various names for the same festival, various ways to celebrate. I have received pictures of ‘Ghatta-sthapana’, ‘Devi Shailputri’, and of course the South Indian ‘Bomma Kolu’ (or Golu depending on your mother tongue). There is a lot of beauty in the manner in which we decorate our Gods and enjoy the festival. There are special offerings, poojas, archanas, bhajans and BHOJANS too (going by the name ‘Bhog’). Then there is the ever so colour raas garba in Western India, Gujarat and Maharashtra in particular. (May not be organised on a grand scale this year, as we are still worried about the consequences of the Pandemic. Grandeur can wait)

Here is a Devi Maa bhajan to kick-off the festivites. It is from the 1978 release ‘Khoon Ki Pukaar’, the synposis of which is there in this post. The movie was directed by Ramesh Ahuja for Tahir Hussain’s TV Films. It had songs penned by Hasrat Jaipuri and Gauhar Kanpuri and music director was Bappi Lahiri. Today’s song is sung by Mohd. Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar and on-screen, both, Pran and Vinod Khanna lip-sync to Rafisaab’s voice and Aruna Irani sings in Lata didi’s voice. We can also see Shabana Azmi and Reeta Bhaduri seated among the devotees of the temple.

As per what I have seen a few years back, this song is used by Amjad Khan (Daku Zaalim Singh) to send a message to Daku Sher Singh (VK); who is recovering under the care of pujari Baba (ex. Dr. Bhushan played by Pran); through Bijli (Aruna Irani). That should make viewers understand what Aruna Irani and VK are exchanging in sign language (‘ishaaron ishaaron mein’ sounds better, I suppose)

With this we also remember the ever oh-so-handsome and oh-so-good looking Vinod Khanna for his birth anniversary which was yesterday. He would have been only 75.

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 129 # A tribute to Parveen Babi #
——————————————-—-

Today 4th April 2021 is the sixty-seventh birth anniversary of actress Parveen Babi(04.04.1954 – 20.01.2005). She would have been sixty-six years old today had she been alive. She left this world at the age of fifty-one years old only on 20th January’2005.

She started her career in Hindi Films with the movie ‘Dhuen Ki Lakeer-1974’ though her movie ‘Charitra-1973’ was released earlier before ‘Dhuen Ki Lakeer’. She went on to act in many movies with leading actors of the ‘seventies’ and was held successful actress like other leading heroines of those years.
I am not going into her detailed biography and filmography in this article. I leave it for another article in the future. But I would like to mention here that I do not remember a single movie of Parveen Babi that I watched and had not liked her presence on the screen 😊 The memories of those movies are unforgettable.

In this article today I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Aahutee (or Aahuti)-1978’. This a ‘beautiful reminder’ of those years was played on ‘Vividh Bharati’ couple of weeks back. As I listened to it, I find this song familiar but I had forgotten the movie name. Later on, I checked and found the movie name and I remembered to have watched this movie with my brothers and cousins in the summer vacations of that year ‘1978’. I do not remember the movie now, but I remember that it was story of ‘three brothers.’ In those years all such movies having stories woven around ‘three brothers’ and ‘lost and found’ stories would easily attract me and my younger brothers as we were three siblings (all males) to our parents. ‘Aahuti’ was one such movie among many others that used to be produced in those ‘multi-starrer’ days. This movie had couple of songs which brings back memories for me.

‘Aahuti’ was directed by Ashok Bhushan for ‘Basho Productions, Bombay’. It had Rajendra Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Rakesh Roshan, Zaheera, Asha Sachdev, Kamini Kaushal, Ajit, Madan Puri, Paintal, Krishan Dhawan, Raj Mehra, Kuljeet, Dulari, Birbal, Rajan Kapoor, Ranjana Sachdev, Preeti Ganguly, Ranbeer Raj, Pal Sharma, Darshan Arora, Dharmveer, Master Romi, Master Rajesh, Master Ravi and others.

Pradeep Kumar makes a ‘special appearance’ in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 25.04.1978.

This movie had six songs penned by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Following is the list of songs this movie had;

S.No. Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Is duniya mein kaun sawaare sab ke bigde kaam (Part-1) Mahendra Kapoor, Anuradha Paudwal, chorus
02 Is duniya mein kaun sawaare sab ke bigde kaam (Part-2) Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Manhar, chorus
03 Kaash aisaa hota Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, chorus 04.08.2016
04 Saathi mere saathi rut aati jaati Mohd Rafi, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, chorus 22.07.2018
05 Naukri sau ki hazaar ki Kishore Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal, chorus
06 Jugni ik ladki ka naam Lata Mangeshkar, chorus Being discussed today

Only two songs from the above have been earlier posted on the blog.

As I mentioned above, two songs from this movie which brings back memories for me are ‘Is duniya mein kaun sawaare sab ke bigde kaam’ and ‘Naukri sau ki hazaar ki’, the later one has been shared long back but yet to be posted.

Today’s song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and chorus and on screen it is performed by Parveen Babi and many other female artists. Also seen in the picturization of this song are Shashi Kapoor, Krishan Dhawan and others. Today’s song is beautiful reminder of the ‘Parveen Babi’ days at the box office. And what to say about Lata Mangeshkar’s singing? … just listen and enjoy this song 😊

The situation hen this song takes place can be guessed by any one after watching this song (an archtypical song situation of those years) 😊

let us now listen and enjoy today’s song based on Punjabi folk music composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal …

Our tributes to Parveen Babi!

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 126 # Tumhaari Kasam-1978
——————————————-—————————

Most of us are familiar with this lovely song ‘ham dono milke kaaghaz pe dil ke chitthi likhenge, jawaab aayegaa’ from the movie ‘Tumhaari Kasam-1978’. This song used to be played frequently on radio when I was growing up(going by the release date of the movie I was just above ten years of age then).

I like this song very much and so when I prepared my list of songs that bring back memories this was by default included in my list. But what about other songs from this movie? I think they were not notable songs and were easily forgotten?

I was not aware about the other songs from this movie until this article when I looked upon to present a song from this movie on the blog.

‘Tumhaari Kasam-1978’ had made its debut on the blog well in the initial days of the blog i.e., on 04.10.2008.
So, today after a gap of ’12 years,05 months, and twenty-one days (‘4555’ days – including 24.03.2021) we are adding the second song of this movie. And I have deliberately chosen a lesser-known song from this movie sung by Preeti Sagar and lip synced on screen by Master Rajoo.

“Tumhaari Kasam-1978” was directed by Ravi Chopra for ‘Associated Films & Finance Corporation’. It was produced by C.V.K. Shastry.

This movie had Jeetendra, Navin Nischol, Moushumi Chatterjee, Padmini Kapila, Master Rajoo, Vimal Ahuja, Jagdish Raj, Prem Sagar, Achala Sachdev, Narbada Shankar, Lina Das, Ranjeet Sood, Anand Balraj, R.S. Chopra, Master Shaka and others. Komila Virk, Alka, Roopesh Kumar and Pradeep Kumar make special appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Tikam. Screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Kamleshwar.
Pran Mehra was the Chief Editor for this movie and Editing was done by S.B. Mane with Pradeep Mehra as his assistant.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 09.03.1978.

This movie had four songs (including one two-part song) written by Anand Bakshi. Music was composed by Rajesh Roshan.

Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Asha Bhonsle, Preeti Sagar and Kishore Kumar give their voices to the songs in this movie.

here is a brief about this movie taken from ‘Wikipedia’;

Vidya (Moushumi Chatterjee) and Raja (Raju Shrestha) live in poverty. They get separated due to certain circumstances. Vidya starts working at Anand’s (Jeetendra) house as a maid. Raja is forced to beg for a local gang. While Vidya is attending to her chores, the alcoholic, Anand, tries to molest her. She escapes but is unfortunately hit by a speeding vehicle driven by Sunil Verma (Navin Nischol). This accident makes her visually impaired. The guilt-ridden Anand wants to apologize to Vidya. Will she accept the apology? Will Vidya reunite with her brother?

here is the list of songs of this movie as appearing in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980);

S.No. Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Ye naa hogaa, nahin hoga hoga…ham donon milke kaaghaz pe dil ke Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh 04.10.2008

03 Hmm, zu zu … main husn ka hoon deewaanaa Kishore Kumar
04 Aye mast hawaa ye to bataa kis waqt yahaan Lata Mangeshkar
05 Ae ladki pyaar karegi, tu mera aitbaar karegi

(in two parts) Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar
*HFGK included the ‘title music track’ of this movie as the sixth soundtrack*

I have not watched this movie and only thing I associate this movie name is its ‘Asha-Mukesh’ duet so far. Also, I think this movie was not successful on the box office.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us now listen to today’s song which also has the ‘signature touch’ of Rajesh Roshan. As mentioned above Master Rajoo is lip-syncing for Preeti Sagar’s voice and also seen in the picturization of the song are Anand Balraj, Moushumi Chatterjee and many others.

“Khoon Ka Badla Khoon” (1978) had songs by the hit team of S.H. Bihari- O.P.Nayyar; the team that gave us “kajra mohabbatwala”, “haule haule chalo more saajna”, taarif karoon kya uski”, “bahut shukriya badi meherbaani” and many more such hits in the ’60s.

“KKBK” had Vani Jairam, Pushpa Pagdhare, Uttara Kelkar, Mohd. Rafi for playback singers. It was directed by K. Parvez a.k.a Kalpataru and produced by Ratan Mohan. It had seven or eight songs of which the blog has only one song.

The cast included Bindu, Asha Sachdev, Mahendra Sandhu, Vinod Khanna, Ajit, Jayshree T., Padma Khanna, Iftekar, Imtiaz Khan, Sudhir etc. Seeing that the movie had so many actresses who could dance, makes it clear why OPN used three different female playback singers.

“KKBK” seems to be one of the movies where Asha Sachdev must have been the main female protagonist or to put it simple -the heroine. Also the poster of the movie suggests that Vinod Khanna may have been paired with Bindu
Here is the next song from ‘KKBK’ on the occasion of Omkar Prasad Nayyar’s 14th remembrance day. It is sung by Vani Jairam. It was and is frequently heard on radio. Vani Jairam had four solos in the movie of which this is the most popular. I found a very short video which suggests that Asha Sachdev is out to woo Mahedra Sandhu who seems to be some kind of under-cover officer. Also the video shows Ajit giving instructions to his ‘No 9’ etc as was the norm in all movies featuring Ajit in that period of time.

The poster that is accompanying the longer version of the song, as is available on youtube shows a rather smart and handsome Vinod Khanna, trying to shoot some one even as he is on the run.
The brief synopsis of the film that is available on IMDB.com says this: The story-line of the film revolves around a Crime Branch’s Officer and a courageous girl from another agency, they are appointed to catch a criminal gang who leaves a trade mark at their every crime scene.

So, that means it was a run-of-the-mill masala thriller that should have been entertaining for the masses. I would love to know how it fared at the box-office.
This is song number 184 of S.H. Bihari and 484 of O P Nayyar who should be thanked for the legacy that is there for us to enjoy

zulf lehrayi toh

saawan ka maheena aa gaya aa
zulf lehraayi toh
aasmaan par haaye ae
aasmaan par baadalon ko
paseena aa gaya

saawan ka maheena aa gaya aa
zulf lehrayi toh

haaye re meri shokh jawaani
meheke jaise raat ki raani
dil mein pyaar ke sapne sajakar
log maren jab meri adaa par
dil mein pyaar ke sapne sajakar
log maren jab meri adaa par
haaye
mujhko bhi jeena aa gaya
zulf lehraayi toh
zulf lehraayi toh
saawan ka maheena aa gaya aa
zulf lehraayi toh
aasmaan par haaye ae
aasmaan par baadalon ko paseena aa gaya
haaye
zulf lehraayi toh
zulf lehraayi toh saawan ka maheena aa gaya aa
zulf lehraayi toh

main kya janoon ooon
rang badalna
pi ke behakna aa aa
jhoom ke chalna
yaaron ne aankhon se pilaayi
banke pawan main bhi lehraayi
yaaron ne aankhon se pilaayi
banke pawan main bhi lehraayi
mujhko bhi peena aa gaya
zulf lehraayi toh
zulf lehraayi toh
saawan ka maheena aa gaya aa
zulf lehraayi toh
aasmaan par haaye ae
aasmaan par baadalon ko paseena aa gaya
haaye
zulf lehraayi toh
zulf lehraayi toh saawan ka maheena aa gaya aa

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 117 #Happy Birthday Reena Roy
———————————————————————————————

Today’s song is from the ‘1978’ movie ‘Karmayogi’. I was longing to share a song from this movie and launch this movie on the blog since long (actually for many years now 😊).

However, the song I had earlier planned to share is not today’s song, but a different song from this movie.

Today’s song was heard frequently on radio and loudspeakers in those days when I was about ten and half years old (considering the date of censor certificate of this movie).

The reason for introducing this song today here on the blog is to celebrate and wish yesteryears beautiful actress Reena Roy a ‘very happy birthday’ today. She turns sixty-three today (born on 7th January’1957).

We wish her a safe, healthy and peaceful life ahead.

I had in my earlier post mentioned about Reena Roy’s movies that I watched and liked too, so I am not going to repeat the same here. We will straightway come to today’s movie and the song.

‘Karmayogi-1978’ was directed by Ram Maheshwari for ‘A.R. Productions, Bombay’. It was produced by Anil Suri. It had Mala Sinha, Rajkumar, Jeetendra, Rekha, Reena Roy, Ajit, Nazeer Hussain, Jagirdar, Yogita Bali, Sudhir Dalvi, Dheeraj, Kanhaiyalal, Jagdeep, Dhoomal, Mushtaq Merchant, Omkar Ema, Chandrashekhar, Jagdish Raj, Master Abbas, Master Parvez, Master Rajiv, Master Sonu and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 23.10.1978.

This movie had six songs, including one multiple version song. Lyrics for all songs were written by Verma Malik and music was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey were the playback singers for this movie.
Lata Mangeshkar had sung only one solo song in this movie and this is the same song being presented today.
None of the songs from this movie made it to the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala-1978’ or 1979. However, today’s song made it to the ‘shadow list’ of songs or ‘songs of the next rung’ of the annual ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of 1979.

I had watched this movie on VCR during my stay at Kota circa 1990-1991. Though I have now forgotten the story of the movie, but I always remember a song from this movie. That song is another song sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturized 0n Rekha.

I had forgotten about today’s song but recently when I checked the Asha Bhonsle song for a post, I rediscovered this Lata Mangeshkar song. After listening to it, I recalled that this song was playedfrequently on loudspeakers during its time.

That is all for this post today. We wait for the next interesting post with other song of this movie. Till then let us once again wish Reena Roy a ‘very happy birthday’, and listen to today’s lovely song …

As mentioned above this song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and lyrics are penned by Verma Malik. Music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

With today’s song ‘Karmayogi-1978’ makes its debut on the blog. 😊
