During the earlier decades of Hindi movies, story of the movies tended to based in India. But in late 1950s, Hindi movies began a look east policy. We began to have Hindi movie action taking place in places like Singapore, Japan, Hongkong etc. We even began to have titles of movies like “Singapore”, “Love in Tokyo”, etc.
“Lamboo in Hongkong”(1967) was a movie of that genre. It was directed by Harsukh Bhatt for S B Films, Bombay. It was a stunt movie but misclassified as “social” movie in HFGK. It had Sheikh Mukhtar, Kumkum, Sujit Kumar, Jayant, Helen, Mukri, Neelam, Mirzsa Musharaff, Ramlal, Zilaani, Latif, Sheela, Mehmood etc in it.
“Lamboo in Hongkong”(1967) had six songs in it. Like the movie, the songs have been forgotten with time, seeing that the movie was a B grade movie that tended to have limited exposure among moviegoers and music lovers. But the songs appear very fine songs on their own merit.
One song from the movie has been covered in the past.
Here is the second song from “Lamboo in Hongkong”(1967) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Manna dey. Qamar Jalalabadi’s lyrics describe the evening and night life of decadent Hongkong from the eyes of puritanical India of 1960s. C Arjun is the music director.
Only audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.
