Only the audio of the song is available. This song sounds like club dance song, possibly picturised on Helen. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.

Lyrics of the song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

“Jai Santoshi Maa”(1975) was one of two movies that were released on 15 August 1975. “Sholay”(movie 1975) was the other movie. In the earlier weeks, “Sholay”(1975) was receiving lukewarm response from audience, and their makers were very nervous. After a few days of anxiety, the crowd suddenly began to rust into the movie halls screening “Sholay”(1975), much to the relief of their makers.

On the other hand, “Jai Santoshi Maa”(1975) began to attract house full audiences from the very first day. Unlike Sholay(1975) it was a low budget movie and it began to show profits as soon as it became clear that the movie would not be taken off after one week but would go on and on. There were many places where this movie ran longer than Sholay. In Ranchi, Sholay ran for 14 weeks whereas Jai Santoshi Ma ran far longer.

The music of “Jai Santoshi Maa”(1975) became very popular. By now the songs of this movie have become a part of many Indian househlds. This movie is the highlight in the careers of Usha Mangeshkar (as a playback singer) and C Arjun (as a music director). Kavi Pradeep, a lyricist extraordinaire of religious and patriotic songs, got to pen the kind of lyrics he so enjoyed.

“Jai Santoshi Maa”(1975) had six songs, including one multiple version song. All songs have gone on to become all time hit songs.

The blog has five of them. Here are the details:-

Song Date of posting (Post number) Remarks
Main to aarti utaaroon re Santoshi maata ki 18 August 2013 (8551)
Yahaan wahaan jahaan tahaan mat poochho kahaan kahaan 11 December 2017 (13802) Multiple version song- Two versions
Karti hoon tumhaara vrat main sweekaar karo maa 11 December 2020 (16089)
Madad karo Santoshi maata 28 May 2021 (16388)

Only one song is left to be covered. Here is that final song. This song is sung by Manna Dey. This is a song of “Hausla afzaai” for Kanan Kaushal, who falls into hard days (as is customary in a a devotional movie. 🙂 )

Kavi Pradeep is the lyricist. Music is cpmposed by C Arjun.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

With this song, all the six songs of “Jai Santoshi Maa”(1975) are covered in the blog and the movie joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.

This song is the 200th song of Kavi Pradeep in the blog as a lyricist.

#the Special Voices of the Decade (1971-1980) – 8 # Usha Mangeshkar #
———————————————–———————————–—————— ——-

Welcome all to the eighth article in this series. Today’s voice is Usha Mangeshkar.
Today’s voice needs no introduction as all of us like minded people are aware about her family members and how she joined her elder sisters in singing for movies.
We are also aware of how she has carved a niche for herself among the many singers who ruled the hearts of millions of cine goers and HFM lovers in all these years.

A detailed write-up about Usha Mangeshkar has already been done by our inhouse encyclopedia Shri Arun ji in his post here.

I am reproducing the following text from his write-up (with his due permission) here.

Born on the 15th of December 1935, at Sangli, Usha is the 4th and the youngest sister of Mangeshkars. The line-up is very regular-exactly 2 year’s difference in the ages of the siblings-
Lata born in 1929
Meena born in 1931
Asha born in 1933
Usha born in 1935
Hridaynath born in 1937.

When master Deenanath died in 1942, Lata, all of 13 years, had to act and sing in films to earn money for the family. Meena, not so keen on singing chose to stay at home and look after the Mother and young Usha and Hridaynath. Asha joined her sister in acting, singing and earning money for the family. Usha was just 7-year-old, so she too remained at home. Besides singing, she was interested in Painting, so she took lessons from the famous painter of those days, M.R. Achrekar. In addition, she also continued learning Music from Pt. Tulsidas Sharma, K. Mahavir and Sushant Maharaj.

When Asha left suddenly and went away-in 1948- with Ganpatrao Bhonsle, twice her age, the family got a terrible jolt. The financial responsibility now fell only on Lata Mangeshkar. At the age of 19 years, Usha decided to start earning herself by singing in films and C. Ramchandra gave her the break with a song” Bhabhi aayee” from ‘Subah ka Tara’-1954. Her very first song became so popular that she was flooded with children’s song offers. Her next popular song was ‘Aplam chaplam’ from Azaad, also by C. Ramchandra.

Usha Mangeshkar’s voice was thereafter used for many children songs. For me, the oldest memory of her children song is the song from ‘Waapas-1969’ which I have presented on the blog and the song is ‘jhunjhuna jhunjhuna’.

Thereafter as I get involved more with Bollywood songs, I became aware of many of her earlier songs. Like when I came into the contact with this blog, and became a Sahir fan, I got to listened her duet song with Asha Bhonsle from the ‘1955’ movie ‘Devdas’ i.e., ‘o albele panchhi tera door thhikaana hai’.

She also got to sing many duet songs with her sister and other female singers in HFM. Many of such duets have been popular and are favorites of music lovers.

And then come the most important period of her singing careers which the ‘decade of seventies 1971-1980’.

During these years, her voice not only featured in many songs but her many songs become popular too. It will not be inappropriate to say that her singing career was at its ‘peak’ during the years of ‘seventies’. That was for Hindi as well as Marathi movies.

For Marathi movies her voice was there in every Dada Kondke movie which became ‘Jubilee Hits’. I remember many songs from such movies that were frequently played on loudspeakers everywhere during festivals and other programs.
Also, the songs from the movie ‘Pinjara-1972’ went on to became huge hits with her voice appearing in six of the nine songs in this movie. Music for this movie was composed by Ram Kadam.

In 1975 came the movie ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’ which was big hit and so were its songs. Usha Mangeshkar’s voice featured in three of the seven songs in this movie. All the three songs sung by her were popular among the masses. Music for this movie was composed by C. Arjun. The song ‘Main to aarti utaaroon re Santoshi Maata ki’ became hugely popular and it remained her all time big hit and highlight of her Hindi movie singing career.

In 1977 came the movie ‘Inkaar’ and its song ‘mungdaa mungdaa main gud ki dali’ was a runaway hit and it was also the favorite of almost each orchestra programs happening then.

I would also like to mention few of her songs here which I like very much.

‘Sainaath tere hazaaron haath’ from ‘Shirdi Ke Sai Baba-1977’,

‘ye jeena hai angoor ka daanaa’ from the movie ‘Khatta Meethha-1977’,

‘mujhe pyaar ka tohfaa de ke’ from the movie ‘Kaalaa Patthar-1979’, which was not included in the movie,
‘sultaanaa sultaanaa mera naam hai sultaanaa’ from the movie ‘Taraanaa-1979’,
And in the later years songs like ‘goron ki naa kaalon ki’, the unforgettable ‘shaam rangeen huyi hai tere aanchal ki tarah’ … There might be other notable songs too which I might be missing here.

And that is the reason that Usha Mangeshkar, because of the many songs of her in the seventies, and many nostalgic moments for us, people like me, who were growing in the seventies, is the voice in this series.

And I must mention here the today’s song which is the very special song for me, as it still has the same effect on me, whenever I listen to it or watch it on the video or other video media.
When I was noting it down for this post and watching it I still get the goose-pimples, because of the singing of this song, the overall composition and the picturization of this song, that is embedded in my mind since my childhood. Specially the landing of Santoshi Maa in the ‘mrityu-lok’ from the ‘swarg-lok’ 😊

So, even if Usha Mangeshkar had sung only this song, she would still have the voice for me in this series for the nostalgia associated with this song for me.

This song is from the 1975 movie ‘Jai Santosh Maa’. Lyrics are by Kavi Pradeep and music is composed by C. Arjun.

On screen this song is lip synced by Kanan Kaushal and many others with Anita Guha as Santoshi Maa can be seen in the picturization of this song.

“Jai Santoshi Maa” was produced by Satram Rohra for ‘Bhagyalakshmi Chitra Mandir, Bombay’ and directed by Vijay Sharma. It had Ashish Kumar, Kanan Kaushal, Rajnibala, Bela Bose, Asha Potdar, Leela Mishra, Manhar Desai, B.M. Vyas, Rajan Haksar, Kundan, Neelam, Padmarani, Lata Arora, Johny Whisky, Surendra Mishra, Dilip Dutt, Uma Dutt, Tiwari, Dubey Trilok Kapoor, Anand Marathe, Shri Bhagwan, Mahipal, and Anita Guha as ‘Santoshi Maa’. Bharat Bhushan makes a ‘guest appearance’ in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 28.05.1975 and that is exactly the same day forty-six years back. I checked, it was Wednesday on this date and may be the movie was released the coming Friday after that. (Knowledgeable readers can throw more light on this).

(Editor’s note- The movie was released on 15 August 1975, which was a friday-and India’s independence day. Another movie called “Sholay”(1975) was also released on the same day.)

Today is Friday and what a better day to present this song today.

Let us now listen to this wonderful song…

I hope you like the song as I do. 😊

15 August 1975 saw the release of a movie that went on to become an all time surprise hit. No, I am not talking about “Sholay”(1975) which was released on that date. “Sholay”(1975) was a big budget multistarrer movie and it was expected to do well at the box office, at least by the makers of the movie, if not the trade pundits.

Another movie was released on 15 august 1975. It was a low key release in a few movie halls. This movie was expected to do a modest business and was expected to last just one or two weeks in movie halls before being replaced by other movies.

But surprisingly, this movie, which had no big stars, and which was a religious movie (that was considered infra dig by city bred movie goers) began to draw crowds that was comparable to the crowd thronging to watch “Sholay”(1975).

Seeing that this movie was made on a shoe strong budget, this movie turned out to be one of the most profitable movie ever for its makers. People would offer prayer in the movie hall and perform aarti. This goddess, which few people were aware of, suddenly found a pride of place among the pantheon of Gods.

This movie, a surprise all time super duper hit, was produced by Satram Rohara and directed by Vijay Sharma for Bhagyalaxmi Chitra Mandir, Bombay had Kanan Kaushal, Ashish Kumar, Anita Guha (playing the title role), Bharat Bhushan, Rajani Bala, Bela Bose, B. M. Vyas, Rajan Haksar, Manohar Desai, Dilip Dutta, Mahipal, Padmarani, Leela Mishra, Sushila Devi etc in it.

The movie had seven songs in it. The movie makers had roped in C Arjun ( largely a music director of B grade movies) as the music director. Kavi Pradeep, a top lyricist of 1940s and 1950s, but more or less out of work by that time, was signed up as the lyricist. He was an inspired choice as the lyricist, seeing that penning religious songs and patriotic songs was his strong suit.

All the songs of “Jai Santoshi Maa”(1975) became hugely popular and they remain so. Kavi Pradeep, in addition to penning the lyrics, also sung two songs in the movie in his characteristic style and these songs became all time classics.

Today (11 December 2020) is the 22nd remembrance day of Kavi Pradeep(6 February 1915 – 11 December 1998). On this occasion, here is a song from “Jai Santoshi Maa”(1975). This song is sung by Usha Mangeshkar who found herself in the role of leading female playback singer in the movie, which was rare for her, as she normally got one song in most movies, for some side actors.

This song happens to be the 200th song of Usha Mangeshkar as a playback singer in the blog. It is quite a befitting song to mark her double century in the blog.

This song, a prayer to Santoshi Maa, is lip synced by Kanan Kaushal. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the other actors seen in the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala (long long ago).

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 29
—————————————————————————

Regulars on this blog might have noticed that now our dear Prakash ji is also regularly contributing to the ‘Blog Ten Year Challenge’ series and I feel very happy about that and relaxed too, because now we will not miss many of these opportunities on the blog (at least for the movies from ‘seventies’).

And though our editors were also contributing to this series sometimes, most of the time I was running alone, so now the ‘baton’ has been taken over and the ‘musical relay’ continues 😊

When I got into touch with Prakash ji to congratulate him for his participation, we also discussed that we will together try to communicate and co-ordinate as possible and while Prakash ji can always do the lyrics part (or some he has already done earlier) I can do the write up part. We also discussed on the opportunities missed due to one reason or the other.

Both of us regret that we missed the opportunity of 30th April for the movie ‘Daaku-1975’. Though Prakash ji had sent a song for this date, but maybe our editors could not post it due to other priorities and work. And I did not send a song or write-up for this movie since I thought Prakash ji might have done that.

Today’s post is the result of this ‘well-co-ordinated team effort’ …

And this situation of ‘ideal team effort’ 😊 was also expressed few years back either in the comments or mail communications in the group, that a regular lyrics contributor and a regular post writer coming together will make it more interesting (I was not a regular on writing posts then) to keep the ‘score card’ moving.

After communicating with Prakash ji I felt like ‘ham donon ek doosre ke purak ban sakte hain’ and even I remember this from the movie ‘Border’ ‘ham hi ham hain to kya ham hain, tum hi tum ho to kya tum ho’ 😊 (filmon ke baare mein sochne ka asar, aur kya?), or just like today’s song ‘mujhe teri zaroorat hai, tujhe meri zaroorat hai’ 😊 😊

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Kaanoon Aur Mujrim-1981’.

I had not watched this movie and didn’t know anything about it until I listened to one of its song “Shaam rangeen huyi hai tere aanchal ki tarah” during early eighties on radio. And after many years of listening this song I got to know the name of the movie(I had mentioned this earlier in my post here ).

I think this movie must have been an obscure movie.

‘Kaanoon Aur Mujrim’ or ‘Qaanoon Aur Mujrim-1981’ was directed by Sham Jethani and Jeevan Kumar for ‘L.K. Movies, Bombay’. They were also the writers of this movie.

S.C. Jethani was the producer of this movie. This movie had Vijendra Mittal, Madhumalini, Padma Khanna, Meena T., Jayshree T., Bharat Kapoor, Avtar Gill, Anand, Ratna, Ved Goswami, C.S. Mantri, Khalil Khan, Dr. Relan, Reema, Venus, Maqbool, Sarita, Sheela, Deepak, Aasha, Shaan and others. Jagdish Raj, Bhagwan Dada, Mohan Choti make friendly appearances in this movie.

This movie introduced Manish Kumar and Noorie.

‘Kaanoon Aur Mujrim-1981’ was passed by Censor Board on 18.06.1981.

This movie had total six songs composed by C. Arjun. He was assisted by Gyan and Iqbal. Asad Bhopali wrote four songs for this movie and Ahmed Wasi wrote two songs.

Today’s song is penned by Ahmed Wasi. The first song of this movie was posted on the blog on 14.05.2010. It was also penned by Ahmed Wasi. What a melodious song and what beautiful meaningful lyrics it had. I thought this song – Shaam rangeen huyi hai tere aanchal ki tarah was the only well-known song from this movie.

But after listening to today’s song it also sounds familiar and maybe I have heard it on Radio earlier.

Today’s song is a solo song sung by Suresh Wadkar. Other than him Shailendra Singh, Usha Mangeshkar, Dilraj Kaur and Shobha Gurtu have given their voices to the songs in this movie.
Now Dilraj Kaur and Shobha Gurtu’s name are more than enough to make one curious to know about the songs sung by them. Well, they will be coming in the future on the blog (if available).

As mentioned above lyrics for the today’s song were sent by Prakashchandra ji.

Ten years back on 14.05.2010 three songs were represented on the blog including a song from this movie “Kanoon Aur Mujrim-1981”.

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Shaam rangeen huyi hai tere aanchal ki tarah Kaanoon Aur Mujrim-1981 01 of 06 song posted
Peete peete kabhi kabhi yoon jam badal jaate hain Bairaag-1976 All songs covered
Ye shamaa to jali roshni ke liye Aaya Saawan Jhoom Ke-1969 All songs covered

We can see that all the above three songs posted then are all good songs to listen to.

For ‘Kaanoon Aur Mujrim-1981’ we have so far only one song posted on the blog.

Let us now enjoy today’s song. Video of this song is not available so I cannot say much about the picturization of this song…

4304 Post No. : 15571

chupke se kho gaya. . .

Searching through his list of songs, I chanced upon this gem of a melodious creation – one of those ‘love at first hear’ type songs that I have really come across after so many days. It has been sitting in my collection forever, and I pulled it today, looking for an unheard or less heard song to include in this post. The composition is quite atypical with a different sound structure attempted. A beautiful melody that I am sure you will also fall in love with.

Remembering C Arjun today, on the anniversary of his passing away (30 April, 1992).

Preparation for this post started a couple of days ago. And in the interim, the industry and the lovers of Hindi films have been shaken by the news of two luminaries passing away yesterday and today. Yesterday morning we got the news about Irfan Khan, who lost his battle with cancer at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. The emotions are still to settle, and the second shocking news came in today morning. Rishi Kapoor, the darling Chintu Baba of the 1970s and 80s, lost his battle with leukemia at another Mumbai hospital today. Irfan Khan, 53 – too yuong, too early. Rishi Kapoor, 67 – lively, and a lot of life still to go. But alas no, this is the ‘as much’ that was ordained.

As I check out the dates on C Arjun today, when he passed away, he was 59. Just about midway between Irfan and Rishi, in terms of years. The writ of life is no one’s command – it is what it is. We see, we compare, we critique, we like, sometimes we ignore. But then, when the finality of the process dawns upon us, one is left with a vacuum somewhere inside that says – wish there was more. . .

Very little details are available about C Arjun’s life and times. The article in Pankaj Raag’s book dedicated to this music director is almost completely based on his work, the films that he did, and the wonderful songs that he has composed. Other than that, very little about the person himself.

He was born on 1st Sep, 1933 in Sindh. His full name – Arjun Chandnani, which was later modified to be C Arjun, for the sake of brevity in film circles, and to avoid any confusion with the name of his mentor music director Bulo C Rani (full name Bulo Chandirani). After partition, his family moved to and settled in Baroda.

C Arjun’s father was musically inclined and was a singer. There is no information available about his training. In one place, there is anecdotal mention that C Arjun fondly remembers being present at the recording of a song by Noorjehaan in Lahore. This anecdotal nugget does not carry any other details. We read about his career initiation in early 1950s – appearing as assistant music director working with Bulo C Rani, in films like ‘Shikaar’ (1955), ‘Aabroo’ (1956), ‘Baadshah Salaamat’ (1956) and ‘Jeevan Saathi’ (1957).

In 1958 came the hit Sindhi film ‘Abana’. In this film, C Arjun shared the credits for music direction with Bulo C Rani, and not just as an assistant. Then in 1960, he got his first break as an independent music director in Hindi cinema with the film ‘Road No. 303’. His career remained very patchy throughout, despite some of the most wonderful songs and ghazals created by him. The songs gained popularity with the listening public, but that never really translated into more work for him from the producers in the industry. Following is the list of films he has composed for,

  • 1961 Main Aur Mera Bhai
  • 1964 Punarmilan
  • 1965 Ek Saal Pehle
  • 1966 Chale Hain Sasural
  • 1966 Sushila
  • 1967 Lambu In Hong Kong
  • 1970 Mangu Dada
  • 1971 Ustad Pedro
  • 1973 Guru Aur Chela
  • 1975 Jai Santoshi Mata
  • 1976 Raksha Bandhan
  • 1977 Aankh Ka Tara
  • 1977 Subah Zaroor Aayegi (possibly a re-release of Sushila from 1966)
  • 1978 Nawab Saheb
  • 1980 Karva Chauth
  • 1981 Kaanoon Aur Mujrim

Unreleased Films
Sant Valmiki
O Mere Jaan e Jigar
Gunaahon Ka Mandir

Besides these, he also has given music to films in Sindhi, Gujarati and Haryanvi. He also has composed music for non-film albums in Sindhi. He was actually in a recording studio, rehearsing with artists for the recording of a Sindhi non-film album release, when he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away.

Today’s song is from his debut Hindi film ‘Road No 303’. The film is produced under the banner of Mahesh Pictures, Bombay, by Bheeku Bhai and Ratan Kumar. The film is directed by Dharam Kumar. The star cast is listed as Shobha Khote, Mehmood, Bhagwan, KN Singh, Tiwari, Sheelu, Helen, Altaf, Maqbool, Raju, Mirajkar, Ramlal, Fazlu, Majnu, Joshi, Kashi, S Kerawala, Master Nisar, Bakshi and others.

The film has six songs, equally shared between the songwriters Jaan Nisar Akhtar and Naqsh Lyallpuri. This particular song is sung by Asha Bhosle. Only the audio of this song is available, and I request our more knowledgeable readers to please add more information about this song, and the movie itself.

A wonderful creation in my opinion. Listen and enjoy.

Blog Day : 3509 Post No. : 14100

Every morning I walk my pets by turns. That is a good time for thinking and getting interesting thoughts. I realised that our blog centuries (when they are taking place at their normal pace) are like lunar months. In the past, we would complete our centuries in 15-16 days which was like one paksh of a lunar month. Nowadays we are taking nearly twice as long to complete a century. In other words, our centuries these days take as long as a lunar month. In other words, these days we are getting one century post per month.

It is different this month. In this month of february 2018, we had touched post number 14000 on the very first day. Today, towards the fag end of february 2018, we reach the next century, viz 14100th post in the blog. It is rare to have two full moons in one month and that has led to the phrase “once in a blue moon”. January 2018 was a blue moon month as far as two full moons were concerned. February 2018 is a “once in a blue moon” month for the blog as far as appearance of two century posts is concerned. When I checked up, I found that the last time we had two century posts in a month was in april 2017. 🙂

Whenever one is dealing with big numbers, one cannot help but devise some statistical tools to judge one’s performance. In limited overs cricket, we have strike rate. In this blog, I have devised a term called blog strike rate. Blog strike rate is nothing but the number of songs per day. One can divide the number of song posts by the number of days in which these posts appeared. We are going at a strike rate of just over 4 songs a day throughout the existence of the blog.

Then there are other interesting statistical analysis that are possible. For instance, number of songs that were created in a year and the number of songs from that year that are covered in the blog. Another variation is number of movies that were released in a year and the number of movies of that year that are represented in the blog. For instance, the year 1964 had 99 movies and 671 songs. The blog has 90 of these movies and 422 of these songs represented in the blog. 44 of these movies are already YIPPEED. So 46 up YIPPEED movies plus nine unrepresented movies from 1964 remain to be covered in the blog.

Covering the as yet unrepresented songs may not be as simple and straightforward as it may appear to the uninitiated. For instance, the nine missing movies of 1964 are rare movies. Sudhir Jee is on a mission to cover the missing movies of 1960s. In two years and three months he has covered more than 60 missing movies of 1960s in the blog. There were 929 movies released in 1960s. As many as 808 of them are covered in the blog with 361 of them already YIPPEED. So just over one hundred movies of 1960s are yet to be covered in the blog. We are making progress regularly. Still a stage will come when we will end up a few movies and a few hundred songs short because of unavailability of the remaining movies and /or songs. In all some 6521 songs were created in 1960s. The blog has 3488 of them. Just over 3000 songs of 1960s remain to be covered.

The decade of 1950s is the most well represented in the blog. 1111 movies are 8654 songs were created during this decade. The blog has 996 movies and 4627 songs represented in the blog, with 348 of these movies already YIPPEED.

Another statistics that is of great interest to me is the number of artists represented in the blog. The lyricists, singers and music directors represented in the blog add up to over 2000. The number of artists on whom these songs were picturised, or who helped create these movies also add up to a considerable number.

Well known artists find considerable representation in the blog. In addition, the blog also gives coverage and recognition to artists who are lesser known and even obscure.

This century songs seeks to recognise the contribution of one of the lesser known artist. This artist is Johny Whisky. This name is obviously inspired from Johny Walker. Johny Whisky (8 february 1932- 7 december 2006), originally named Sheikh Zennul Abdeen, has figured in bit roles in lots of movies starting from 1960s till 1990s. He worked in bit roles and he was too insignificant an actor unlike Johny Walker who tended to have at least one song earmarked for himself in ever movie. Still, Johny Whisky’s voice has been used in a few songs. Johny Whisky got to lend his voice in a song in “Akeli Mat Jaiyyo” (1963), viz. Chal chal chal mere dil and in a song in “Anjaam”(1968) viz. Mubaarak ho tumko ye jungle puraana.

The song under discussion is one where Johny Whisky is the main singer. Johny Whisky plays a eunuch who in India tend to look for houses with newborns. They would reach that house armed with dholaks and sing “badhaai”. That is the main occupation of this third gender in India.

The song is a “badhaai” song which is sung by Johny Whisky and chorus. Though only the audio is availabble, but it is clear that the song is picturised on Johny Whisky and others playing “hijdas”. Though this song is mentioned as a traditioan song, Sahir Ludhianvi is credited as the lyricist of this song in Akshay Manwani’s ‘Sahir Ludhianvi- The People’s Poet’.

Music is composed by C Arjun.

This song is the fifth and final song from the movie so this doubles up as the YIPPEE movie of the day as well.

Here are the details of the earlier songs from the movie covered in the blog.

With this song, “Nawaab Saahib”(1978) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog. The blog ofcouse clocks 14100th song post with this song.

As always, I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their continous support, encouragement, contributions, suggestions etc which is helping this bandwagon moving along in this musical journey where we rarely halt at any stops.

Blog Day : 3490 Post No. : 14019

The film ‘Sushila’ of 1966 – and a peculiar turn of events as we tried to ‘Yippeee’ this film, earlier on 26th January. And then there is another very interesting quirk related with this post and this Yippeee action today.

After having done our due diligence and concluding that about 10 days back, we were ready to Yippeee this film, I was preparing the post for the song “Satyamev Jayate”, the then final pending song of this film. It is a nationalistic song, and I was working to publish this song on 26th Jan, and also do the honors of Yippeee-ing this film.

Just a chance examination of the folder of the songs of this film in my collection, and I was surprised to see that there is an extra song sitting in there. A little surprised, I started checking for more information. After some back and forth across the pages of Geet Kosh itself, I was able to locate the information. Actually, this song is listed in the corrigenda (appendix of corrections) of the volume IV, as an addition to the list of songs of this film. And so, we established that the film ‘Sushila’ actually has seven songs and not six. So the plans for that day were changed. A different film was Yippeee’d that day. And now, today is the turn of this film to join the band of Yippeee’d films.

As we take a look the list of songs of this film, I must say that it is a very impressive list of some very wonderful songs. Check out the list of songs posted so far.

Gham Ki Andheri Raat Mein Sushila 2552 22-Jun-10
Bemurawwat Bewafaa Sushila 3755 9-Apr-11
Bahut Khoobsoorat Hain Aankhen Tumhaaree Sushila 5216 29-Dec-11
Nazar Nawaaz Nazaaron Mein Kho Gaya Hoon Main Sushila 5274 9-Jan-12
Gori Milna Ho Milna Re Nadiya Ke Paar Sushila 6539 29-Aug-12
Satyamev Jayate Satyamev Jayate Sushila 13978 26-Jan-18

Each one of the above listed songs is a wonderful gem. And so is the final addition to this list, being uploaded and posted today. This song was hitherto not available online. Well let me correct that. The song is available on YouTube, albeit as a part of the 4th Nov, 2017 edition of Bhoole Bisre Geet broadcast on AIR FM Gold, which is a special program honoring the music director C Arjun.

The song is sung by Asha Bhosle. Lyrics are from the pen of Indeewar. It is a very poignant mother-child song. It could have been a lorie, a lullaby in the film, but I cannot be sure. I request our more knowledgeable readers to kindly add more information about the on screen performance of this song, and also about the film itself.

Now let me add one more very peculiar twist to this scenario. Based on information in the footnotes, it seems that the film ‘Sushila’ was possibly re-released with a different title, at a later point in time. There is a film from 1977, listed in the Geet Kosh – titled ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’. As we compare the information entries for these two films, we find that the list of songs is identical. The information about singers of individual songs, the names of the lyricists, and the name of music director, are also identical.

The other item of information that is identical is the name of the director of the films. Interestingly enough the production banner is different. ‘Sushila’ is released under the banner of Shri Vinayak Chitra of Bombay, whereas ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’ is released under the banner of Shri Devo Films, Karnataka. The cast of actors, which is listed only for the latter film, reads like Kumar, Ram Kumar, Harman, Sheila, Lal Bahadur, Ranjeet Budhkar, Shivaji Jadhav, Ashu, Mahesh Raj, Prabhakar, Moolchand, Sandeep, Uma Khosla, Jeet, Dubey, Sinha, Firoza, K Raghunath, Krishan Duggal, Shobha, Dilip Dutt, Chhotu Sawant, Chandrakant, S Jairaj, Surekha Naik, Inderkumar Bhatia, Prakash Inamdar, Ramdas Padhey, Shabana, and Nayan Tara.

So now I have a poser specifically for Atul ji. As per the Geet Kosh information, it is a possibility that these two films are actually the same. Looking at the list of songs, well they are identical. And yet, being released separately under different production banners, and also being titled differently – are these two films?

So then, is it the case that we have the most peculiar and a most unique circumstance, wherein we are Yippeee’ing two films – at the same time. Wo wo. . . this is going to be a first, and probably the last such occasion where we are able to Yippeee two films that are distinctly and separately listed in the Geet Kosh. Most interesting circumstance. If yes, then this post has to be marked as a very unique post indeed.

What say Atul ji, – shall we Yippeee two films with this one post, today. 🙂

Song – Mere Aanchal Ka Diya  (Sushila) (1966) Singer – Asha Bhosle, Lyrics – Indeewar, MD – C Arjun

Lyrics

mere aanchal ka diya tu
meri aankhon ki kiran
tere badle mein agar chaand miley

tere kaajal ki lakeeron mein hai
taqdeer meri
oo ooo oooo
tere kaajal ki lakeeron mein hai
taqdeer meri
teri soorat mein nazar aati hai
tasveeer meri

tere badle mein agar chaand miley
to bhi na loon

mere aanchal ka diya tu

Blog Day : 3479 Post No. : 13978

The blog activities have picked up pace quite a bit in this new year. Almost all contributors are quite active. I hope this pace is sustained, and does not peter out like the enthusiastic short term flings of the resolutioners. Gajendra ji had commented that it generally is a euphoria that lasts about a week into the new year. But in this case, ‘रब नजर ना लगाए’, we seem to be going great guns for over three weeks now. So far, it portends all good for the continuing activity. Now only if responses in the comments column also pick up pace. 🙂

Greetings to all readers and friends, on the occasion of marking the Republic Day event of our country.

In the notes exchanged with Atul ji over the past week, it comes about that the 1966 film ‘Sushila’ is just one song short of being a Yippeee film on the blog. And quite fortunately, the remaining song in the list is actually very appropriate for the celebration of 26th January. Scrambling to locate this song, we are unsuccessful to find it posted online. And so the quick decision was to upload the song, post it for 26th January celebrations and in the process add one more to the list of Yippeee’d films.

In the process of realizing this plan, as I checked the songs folder for this film in my collection, I was in for a very peculiar surprise. I checked and checked again with the Geet Kosh and also with the list of songs available on the blog. There had to be an error somewhere. Actually, the songs folder in my collection was showing one song extra than the 6 songs that are supposed to be there. Checking with Geet Kosh, the number seems to tally. Our Yippeee films lists also shows this film as being one song short. So how come I have an extra song.

My first reaction of course was that another song has been inserted in this folder by mistake. I took a chance and called up my collector friend to check. He said that the song (the extra song I was enquiring about) belongs to this film. In confusion, I completed the call, without asking him another important question – who says it is?

In confusion, I resorted back to the Geet Kosh. And it just struck me to check the corrigenda of volume IV. And as I did, I find that this ‘supposed’ extra song does exist for this film. The corrigenda entry lists this song, as one more song for this film, which is missing from the main Geet Kosh listings.

So the silver lining to this confusion cloud is that this film has seven and not six songs – one more unheard song to enjoy. Ah yes, but there is also a cloud to this silver lining – that this film cannot be yippeee’d today. So, there. 🙂

Today’s song is written by Jaan Nisar Akhtar, and the music is by C Arjun. The singing voices are of Asha Bhosle and Usha Mangeshkar accompanied by chorus. I haven’t had the opportunity to see this film. The manner in which the song is presented, it appears that a teacher is singing this song, accompanied by a group of school students. The teacher is telling about the glory and the history of India, and then she poses a query to the students, to tell briefly about some of the great people of our country. Apparently, the students take turns to sing out a brief introduction to certain great leaders of our country, past and present.

At the end of the song, the teacher takes over once again, and tells the students about the continuing problems and social ills, and then exhorts them to become the great leaders of the future, and help to address these problems.

The issues mentioned, were valid for the 1960s, and sadly, they continue more aggravated-ly, even fifty years later. It seems as if the human progress continues, in many aspects and many spheres of life. But apparently, these social evils are a given constant in the society. Nothing seems to have the power to effect any change in status quo. These issues have been discussed in ancient texts, in the teachings of great men over the ages, and continue to seize the time and attention of the leaders today. And that is all I have to say about this situation.

Enjoy this rare song from the mid 1960s, that apparently went out of circulation for quite some time in the interim.

Once again, greetings for a Happy Republic Day.

Lyrics

bharat ke hum rehne waale
bharat hum ko pyaara hai
is dharti ka maan badhaana
pehla farz hamaara hai
is dharti ka maan badhaana
pehla farz hamaara hai
sadiyon ke itihas ne humko
raaz yahi batlaaya hai
desh ki jis ne sewa ki hai
wohi bada kehlaaya hai
desh ki jis ne sewa ki hai
wohi bada kehlaaya hai
aise mahaan insaanon ke
naam zara batlaao to
desh ki khatir kis ne kiya
kya kaam zara batlaao to
desh ki khatir kis ne kiya
kya kaam zara batlaao to

chandragupt samraat ke jiska daur sunehra daur hua
daur sunehra daur hua
mulk tha apna tukde tukde
ek bana kuchh aur hua
mulk tha apna tukde tukde
ek bana kuchh aur hua
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

amn ka khud paighaam ho jaise
naam ashok e azam ka
naam ashok e azam ka
aaj bhi chakra nishaan hai
apne tirange parcham ka
aaj bhi chakra nishaan hai
apne tirange parcham ka
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

akbar jis ne maanavta ka
farz sikhaana chaaha tha

hind ki saar kaumon ko
ik kaum banana chaaha tha
hind ki saar kaumon ko
ik kaum banana chaaha tha
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

tipu jisko naam watan ka
jaan se apni pyaara tha
jaan se apni pyaara tha
jisne aage badh ke videsi taaqat ko lalkaara tha
jisne aage badh ke videsi taaqat ko lalkaara tha
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

naam hai zinda laxmi bai
jhansi ki maharani ka
jhansi ki maharani ka
hum ko jisne sabak diya hai
himmat ka qurbaani ka
hum ko jisne sabak diya hai
himmat ka qurbaani ka
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

veer bhagt singh desh pe jis ne

satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

neta wo subhash ke jin se
andolan ki mauj chali

kaandhe par ik jhanda le kar
azaadi ki fauj chali

jin ke kaaran hum ne dekhi
aaj ghadi azaadi ki
jin ke kaaran hum ne dekhi
aaj ghadi azaadi ki
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

nehru apna pyara  rehbar
jis ne har balidan diya
jis ne har balidan diya
saare jag ki nazron mein
is desh ko ooncha maan diya
saare jag ki nazron mein
is desh ko ooncha maan diya
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate
satyamev jayate satyamev jayate

goonji hai awaaz samay ki
waqt ke hain paighaam bahut
aage aage karna honge
hum ko tum ko kaam bahut
kab tak aakhir aur sahen
is gurbat is bekaari ko
khatm abhi karna hai hamen
dualat ki zaaradaari ko
zaat ke bandhan cheez hain kya
kyon doori apne beech rahe
desh mein koi dukh kyon jhele
kyon ye oonch aur neech rahe
tumko bhi kal badh ke
apne baagh ki khushboo ban’na hai
bachcho ik din tumko gandhi
tumko nehru ban’na hai

gandhi ban’na hai
nehru ban’na hai

gandhi ban’na hai
nehru ban’na hai

gandhi ban’na hai
nehru ban’na hai
