“Saanjhi-1984” alias ‘The Shared One’ was directed by Pradeep Hooda for ‘Shree Ganpati Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Sumitra-Satish. The cast of this movie has Sachin, Sumitra, Dinesh Thakur, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Goga Kapoor, Om Puri, Naina Behl, Rekha Sahay, Shabnam, Javed Khan, Raghuvendra, Master Sameer, Lahri Singh, Mattu, Keval Handa, Sadanand Phadke, Kamini Bhatia and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 15.10.1984. This movie is considered one of the most successful movies made in Haryanvi language. However the Censor Board certificate mentions this movie as a ‘Hindi’ movie. Niaz Haider is the writer of this movie. Editing of this movie is done by the well-known editor-duo of Hindi films Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali.
“Saanjhi-1984” has seven songs composed by J.P. Kaushik. The writer of this movie, Niaz Haider also wrote lyrics for all the seven songs in this movie. The singers for the songs of this movie are Anuradha Paudwal, Dilraj Kaur and Bhupinder Singh. Out of the seven songs in this movie the voice of singer Bhupinder Singh appears in four songs viz three solo songs and one duet song.
This movie tells us the story based on the custom called as ‘lattaa odhaanaa’ prevalent in parts of our country. It means as the second marriage of a widow. In this case the widow is get married to either to real brother of the husband, or brother in a distant relationship of the husband. Its aim is to protect the woman as well as the property which she would be inheriting after her husband’s death. The brother or the distant brother in law of the widow could be younger or older than her, i.e. his age doesn’t matter while following this custom, and his marital status is also not considered. He could be an already married person.
Today I am presenting a song from this movie and if I am not wrong this could be the first song from a ‘Haryanvi’ movie on this blog.
Today 6th February 2025 is the eighty-fifth birth anniversary of singer Bhupinder Singh. He was born on 6th February 1940 and he passed away on 18th July 2022. As a tribute to him today, I present this song sung by him which is a duet song with singer Anuradha Paudwal. The song is picturised on Sachin and Shabnam (as mentioned in the video song link). It is a nice duet song to listen to.
