Today’s song is from the movie ‘Veer Bhimsen-1964’. It was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films, Bombay’. It had Dara Singh, Anita Guha, Mumtaz, Mahipal, Sumitra Devi, Shahu Modak, Randhawa, Tiwari, Sapru, B.M. Vyas, Amarnath, Vishwas Kunte, Ravi Kumar, Babu Raje, Radheshyam, Shribhagwan, Dubey, Anand Tiwari, Prithvi, Ajeet Soni, Pt. Iqbal, Pahalwan, Kingkong, Tiger Joginder Singh, Saudagar Singh, Swarn Singh, Rana Pratap Singh and many others. ‘Veer Bhimsen’ is ‘mythological’ movie. This movie has as many as ten songs penned by Kavi Pradeep and composed to music by C. Ramchandra. Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Kavi Pradeep are the playback singers for this movie. Three songs from this movie have been posted on the blog in the past.

While presenting a song from this movie on 10th January’2025 our senior Shree Sadanand Kamath jee has mentioned in details about the story of this movie. I have some part of his text in the post and giving here below to give an brief idea about this movie.

“‘Veer Bhimsen’ is a mythological film connected with the epic of Mahabharata from the viewpoint of Bhimsen. In Mahabharata, Bhimsen, the second among the five Pandav brothers, has been depicted as a man with extra-ordinary power, strength, unsatiable appetite and the devotion to his family. He is very protective of Draupadi. Those who insulted her, Bhimsen takes deadly revenge against them. At the same time, he follows the sound sense of justice towards those who are exploited. Although he remained under the shadow of his younger brother, Arjun, Bhimsen had an important role in Kurukshetra war in which he defeated Duryodhana and Dushasana in the last day of the war. There are many interesting episodes on the life of Bhimsen including those during the Kurukshetra war. The story of the film is based on some of such episodes in the epic of Mahabharata. There are many episodes in the film build around Bhimsen, like killing of demon Bakasura, king Jarasandha, killing of Kichaka, and his meeting with Lord Hanuman etc. After Pandavas return to Hastinapur, in the game of dice, Pandavas are defeated and are exiled in the forest for 12 years. During the period of exile, there are episodes concerning Bhimsen.”

Today’s song is a background song. From the video of the song we can easily guess that this song gets played in the background after the battle of Kurukshetra between the Kauravas and the Pandavas. We see Shahu Modak as Lord Krishna (and many other artistes) walking through the battlefield and all around him are the people who have lost their lives in the battle. Their relatives are also there, mourning the death of their near and dear ones.

Lyrics of thesong are by Kavi Pradeep. Kavi Pradeep grew up watching his country under slavery of the British Empire and fighting for its freedom, having seen the partition of this country, and being a witness to the incidents that thecountry had to through, including war, lyrics like this one came naturally to Kavi Pradeep. The lyrics express the tragic aftermath of a war. One can also easily relate the lyrics of this song with the things that took place around us a few weeks ago that shook the sensibilities of Indian as well as the world.

The verses also reminds us of other similar songs by Kavi Pradeep e.g. ‘dekh tere sansaar kee haalat kyaa ho gayee bhagwaan’, and ‘aaj ke is insaan ko ye kyaa ho gayaa’ etc. Kavi Pradeep himself is the singer of this song. It is our pleasure to add one more song in his voice on this blog. Music is composed by C. Ramchandra.

Let us listen to this song now …
