“Naag Mani-1957” was directed by Raman B Desai for ‘Bombay Movietone, Bombay’. Raman B. Desai was also the producer of this movie, which was a ‘mythological’ movie. The cast of this movie had Nirupa Roy, Trilok Kapoor, Manhar Desai, P. Kailash, S.N. Tripathi, Rajan Haksar, Poonam Kapoor, Sundar, Babu Raje, Yashodhara Katju, Rajrani, Helen, Sheela Kashmiri, Roopa, Heera Sawant, Uma Khosla, Lata, Nimmo Firoze, Lata Roy, Sarla, Buta Ram Sharma, Gangaram, K.P. Rao, S.P. Anand, S.N. Ghosh, Avtaar Singh and others. This movie was passed by censor board on 30.09.1957.
“Naag Mani” has ten songs written by Kavi Pradeep and composed by Avinash Vyas. The playback singers for this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Sundar, Sheikh, Usha Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Geeta Dutt, Mohd Rafi and Kavi Pradeep. The Geet Kosh Vol-III, while listing the singers for this movie mentions the name of S.D. Batish also, but the individual song titles do not have his name as singer for any songs.
Three songs from the movie “Naag Mani” have been posted in past in the blog. Today I am presenting the fourth song from this movie to appear on this blog. This song is sung by Sundar and Sheikh as mentioned in Geet Kosh Vol-III (1951-1960). Only the audio of this song is available. This song seems to be a sales pitch song and it has some very interesting verses and words that may not be easily heard these days.
Enjoy the song … and enjoy this wonderful song penned by Kavi Pradeep and sung with gusto by Sundar and Sheikh. I am not much aware about the singer Sheikh or is he an actor? Knowledgeable readers would be able to throw more light on this please.
