Today’s song is from the movie ‘Basant Panchami-1956’. It was directed by Jayant Desai for ‘Hemlata Pictures’. Jayant Desai was also the producer of this movie.
HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) mentions ‘Basant Panchami-1956’ as a devotional or ‘bhakti pradhaan’ movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 24.07.1956. The cast of this movie included Nirupa Roy, Anant Kumar, Jeevan, S.N. Tripathi, Radhakishan, Yashodhara Katju, Niranjan Sharma, Kumkum, Babu Raje, Charubala, Anand Joshi, Sukumar, Dubey, Uma Dutt, Naazi, Shri Bhagwan and others.
This movie ‘Basant Panchami-1956’ has ten songs written by Kavi Pradeep. Music of this movie was composed by Chitragupt. Asha Bhonsle and Kavi Pradeep gave their voices to the songs consisted of two duets and eight solo songs by Asha Bhonsle. Four songs from this movie have been covered on the blog in the past.
Today I am presenting the fifth song from this movie. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Only audio of this song is available. However, listening to this song one can guess that this song is a song by the ‘gopiyaan’ which they are singing for the ‘god of flute’ ‘murliwaale’ and inviting him to come and sing and dance with them. This composition by Chitragupt is something special and it not only mesmerizes but also grows on the listener. This could be for the first occasion where I have found dark clouds being likened to ‘ghunghraale baadal’ (‘curly clouds’, such a cute observation 🙂 ).
