Today’s Kavi Pradeep song is from the movie ‘Harishchandra Taramati-1963’. The music for this movie was composed by the music duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal who were new to film industry and the young music directors then. This film was their second movie after ‘Paarasmani-1963’.
In one of the posts with a song from this movie Shree Atul jee has mentioned about this movie and its music directors as follows.
“It was a C grade movie destined to be forgotten, but for the fact that the makers of this movie had signed up two whizkids as the music directors. Laxmikant Pyarelal, the musical whiz kid composed fantastic music and the movie became better known than it really deserved.”
Today 25th May 2025 is the twenty-seventh Remembrance Anniversary of composer Laxmikant Kudalkar (03.11.1937-2505.1998) of the Laxminakt-Pyarelal duo. He passed away at the age of sixty years.
As a tribute to him today we will listen to one of the compositions from the movie ‘Harishchandra Taramati-1963’ where all the songs were penned by Kavi Pradeep.
Knowledgeable readers are well aware that this movie has two timeless classic songs i.e. ‘jagat bhar kee roshnee ke liye’ in the voice of Hemant Kumar and ‘toot gayee hai maalaa motee bikhar chale’ in the voice of Kavi Pradeep.
“Harishchandra Taramati-1963” was directed by B.K. Adarsh for ‘Adarshlok, Bombay’. It was a ‘mythological genre’ movie. It had Prithviraj Kapoor, Jaimala, B.M. Vyas, Tiwari, P. Kailash, Naazi, Helen, Ulhas, Babu Raje, Nasreen, Saraswati, child artiste Babloo and others. Story of this movie was written by Pandit Madhur and Vishwanath Pandey and screenplay was written by Naval Mathur. Dialogue writing was done by Adarsh himself. The editing of this movie was done by I.M. Kunnu. Geet Kosh mentions eight songs for this movie (including one three part song). As mentioned above Kavi Pradeep wrote all songs for this movie. Music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
“Harishchandra Taramati-1963”is the only movie where this lyricist Kavi Pradeep and composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal come together. The playback signers for this movie are Lata Mangeshkar, Hemant Kumar, Kavi Pradeep, Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar and Mahendra Kapoor. (However the titles of the movie (in the available online version of the movie) didn’t mention the names of Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar and Mahendra Kapoor).
Four songs from this movie (including the one ‘three part’ song) have been posted on the blog. Today we are going to listen the fifth song from this movie which in the voice of Mohd Rafi. It is a background song , and it contains the gist of the story of the legend of Raja Harishchandra and Taramati. We can see Prithviraj Kapoor, Jaimala, Master Babloo and many others present in the picturisation of this song.
