Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 15

Today’s rare song is from an obscure movie called “Bada Kabootar” released in 1973.

“Bada Kabutar” is an action-comedy film directed and produced by Deven Verma, who also stars in the lead role. The film features a notable cast including Ashok Kumar, Rehana Sultan, Deven Verma, Keshto Mukherji, Subroto, Ashoo, Pinchoo Kapoor, Leela Mishra, Paul Sharma, Jal Parvez, Helen etc in it. The movie also had lots of “new discoveries” viz Nikhilesh, Saajan, Kailash Sharma, Sameena, Master Ashwin and Master Ramesh.

The story of Bada Kabootar centers around Bhola (Deven Verma), a young man from a family of habitual criminals. Having served seven prison sentences due to his uncle Mama Rampuri’s (Ashok Kumar) ill-conceived schemes, Bhola aspires to lead an honest life selling bananas or banyans. However, his mother (Leela Mishra) manipulates him into believing she is gravely ill and requires expensive treatment, compelling him to partake in another heist.

Mama Rampuri devises a plan to kidnap the son of a wealthy smuggler Seth Dharamdas (Pinchoo Kapoor) to extort a hefty ransom. They enlist the help of club dancer Rita (Rehana Sultan) and loyal gang member Abdul (Keshto Mukherjee). Unbeknownst to them, Dharamdas values his wealth more than his son and is himself capable of criminal acts, including kidnapping and murder. Complicating matters further, Mama’s old adversary Ghaffoor (Madan Puri) seeks to sabotage their plans at every turn.

The film blends elements of crime and comedy, exploring themes of familial pressure, the struggle between criminal legacy and personal redemption, and the unpredictability of human nature.

Bada Kabutar was released on July 6, 1973, and is remembered for its satirical take on crime and familial obligations, set against the backdrop of 1970s India.

“Bada Kabootar”(1973) had five songs in it. Two songs have already been covered in the past. Here’s the third song.

It is “Mubarak Ho Yeh Raat Jawan” by Asha Bhosle is written by Yogesh Goud and composed by RD Burman.

The song is a vibrant celebration of youth and festivity. This track exemplifies the musical brilliance of its era.

In the film, the song is picturized on the iconic dancer Helen, whose performance adds a layer of glamour and energy to the narrative. The lyrics convey a sense of joy and celebration.
