Pancham’s Music – Nineties (1991-2000) Part-1 –Post-1 (1991)

Today 27th June 2025 is the eighty-sixth birth anniversary of the genius music director Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on 27th June 1939 and he passed away on 4th January 1994. Today on his birth anniversary we pay our tributes to R.D. Burman on this blog by covering some of his creations.
The song in this post is from the year 1991. It is from the movie ‘Gunehgaar Kaun’ which was directed by Ashok Gaikwad for ‘Barkha Movies Pvt Ltd, Bombay’.
The producers for this movie were Smt Reena Khan (Reena Roy after getting married to Mohsin Khan), Sharda Roy and Anju Roy. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 08.03.1991. It had Raj Babbar, Mohsin Khan, Sujata Mehta, Sangeeta Bijlani, Saeed Jaffery, Satyen Kappu, Anjan Shrivastava, Gurbachan, Brijesh and Paresh Rawal. This movie introduced Nishigandha (Nishigandha Wad who was already working in Marathi movies then). The story and screenplay of this movie was written by Santosh K Saroj.Dialogues of this movie were written by Santosh K Saroj and Rajkumar Bedi. Editing of this movie was done by the famous editing duo Waman Bhonsle & Gurudutt Shirali (mentioned as Waman-Guru in the title of the movie).
Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist for all the songs of this movie. The titles of the movie mentioned the singers for this movie as Asha Bhonsle and Shailendra Singh only. However in the book ‘Pancham’ (An Anthology of R.D. Burman’s Musical Work compiled by Vishwas Nerurkar & assisted by Bishwanath Chatterjee they list a song sung by Suresh Wadkar and Sadhna Sargam too in this movie. Music was composed by R.D. Burman.
Today we will listen to a wonderful creation of Pancham from this movie which grows on the listener as one listens to it a few times.
This song has two versions i.e. Male and Female Versions. Male version is lip synced by Mohsin Khan while Sangeeta Bijlani lip syncs the female version. With singer Shailendra Singh, Pancham has given us some wonderful songs in Hindi Films . Their collaboration for Hindi movies yielded 57 songs in 38 movies. The collaboration of R.D. Burman and Majrooh Sultanpuri add upto 402 songs from 74 movies.
