Mukesh and his Composers – 40
Coming to next part of this series, we take up the case of composer Shreekant Telang for whom Mukesh again has a solitary song. The film is “Santoshi Maa Ki Mahima” whose records were released in 1975, but for some unknown reason the film itself was released in 1981 with an altered name “Sampoorna Santoshi Maa Ki Mahima”.
With some difficulty, I was able to trace the movie and here it is. However, it is sans any songs. The titles are available, and thus we are able to confirm the film since the singers, composers and lyricist are known.
Our Avinash ji has recently covered a song from this film and thankfully spared this Mukesh number for self. Thanks ji. 😊
Hereis his post with more details on the film.
Coming to the composer himself, I could not collate much information on him. And a similar name appears in many Marathi films as composer, editor etc. I do not want to speculate and would request knowledge readers to add more and any credible information that they may have on composer Shreekant Telang.
His name, however, does appear in another movie titled Sant Gyaneshwar (1982). And seeing that Md. Rafi has two songs in the movie and its release date is 1982, one can safely say that this movie too was delayed as Md. Rafi passed away in 1980.
The film title incidentally reminds us of the more popular film released in 1964. In this 1964 version, Mukesh has sung one of his famous devotional song jyot se jyot jagaate chalo.
Incidentally, all these 3 films have their songs written by Bharat Vyas.
Today’s song by Mukesh is again a devotional song which he has sung with a lot of zeal and gusto. From the comments on youtube, I see that many people have expressed their admiration for the rendition and devotional endeavor put in by Mukesh in praise of Santoshi Maa.
