Today is the second Monday of the Shraavan maas in the northern parts of our country. On this occasion here is a song praising Lord Shiva from the movie ‘Jai Mahaadev-1955’.
‘Jai Mahaadev-1955’ was a movie from the genre of mythological movies directed by Ramchandra Thakur for ‘K. Pictures, Bombay’. Ratilal Vora was the producer of this movie which was passed by the censor board on 25.03.1955. The cast of this movie had Nalini Jaywant, Trilok Kapoor, Mahipal, S.N. Tripathi, Meenakshi, Dar Kashmiri, Shyam Sundar, Jeevan, Revashankar, Indira Bansal, Pandey, Babu Raje, Sukumar, Heera Sawant, Bheem Bhai, Sachin Ghosh, Prabha Shankar, Mahimi, Deewan, Narbada Shankar, Chhannalal, Lalit Kapoor, Raj Sood, Ganpat Rao and others. Roopa Verman, Lalita Kumari, Umakant and Roopmala were the guest artistes for this movie.
Here is a brief about the director Ramchandra Thakur that our inhouse encylopeadia Shree Arunkumar jee hadgiven in his post while presenting a song from this movie earlier on this blog.
Thakur was born in Ahmedgarh, Gujarat, on 17-12-1908. He started his career with the film Gramophone Singer-1938, by writing its story and directing the film along with B.C.Desai. He directed 15 films in all, like Kasauti, Apna Paraya, Aarti, Garibi, Makkhichoos, and Nawab Sirajuddaula etc. He had also written the story of the Golden jubilee film Baiju Bawra-52. Ramchandra Thakur died on 31-12-1992 at Bombay.
In his post Shree Arunkumar jee has also given a brief about the story of this movie ‘Jai Mahaadev’, as given below.
The story of the film was that the Rakshas Tarkasur was creating havoc in the world of mortals by torturing them. He was invincible, and could only be killed by Lord Shiva’s son. The problem was Shiva was a bachelor and always busy in sadhana on Kailas parwat. Unless he got married and has a child this was not possible. Gods decided to send the God of Love-Kamdev to entice Shiva and make him marry Parvati, who was eager to get married to Shiva. Kamdev cast his spell on Shiva and broke his sadhana. Shiva was so angry that he opened his third eye and burnt Kamdev into ashes. This was terrible. The whole universe was now without love. Kamdev’s wife Rati and other Gods were much grieved and started pleasing Shiva. Finally Shiva opened his eyes and blessed Rati that her husband will forever be within every living soul, but she wanted Kamdev alive for her. So Shiva gave a boon that in Dwapar yug, they will unite physically. Shiva also married Parvati and they had a son Kartikeya who killed Tarkasur and thus saved the world from his terror.
‘Jai Mahaadev-1955” has nine songs in it which were all written by Bharat Vyas. Music for this movie was composed by Manna Dey. The singers for the songs in this movie are Manna Dey, Madhubala Jhaveri, Asha Bhonsle, Gopal Mishra, and Moti Sagar. One song is credited to an unidentified male voice.
This movie made its debut on the blog on 23.02.2014. Later the second song from this movie was posted on the blog on 20.08.2021. Today, I am presenting the third song from this movie which is a duet song in the voice of Manna Dey and Madhubala Jhaveri who are accompanied by chorus. Only audio of the today’s song is available. I have not been able to note correct words at many places where I would request knowledgeable readers to provide the correct words at the missing places please.
