“Gunehgaar”(1936) aka “The Sinner” aka “Kalankini” was directed by H R Soni and Baba Kesarsingh for Venus Movietone, Bombay. This “Social” movie had Kamla Devi, Maruti Rao, Haider Shah, Soni, Gauhar, Mary, Manmohan, Laxman, Bhimsen, A Boota, K Jamshed, Majid, Dr Victor, Afzal Khan, Kanta, P Matwala etc in it.
This by now obscure and forgotten movie had eight obscure songs in it. No details about the singers, record numbers etc are given in HFGK part I.
Much to our pleasant surprise, one song from movie has become available online. Here is this song. It is a duet song. Singers names are not known. Lyricist is Pt Matwala as per HFGK and Pt Kailash Matwala as per the uploader. So the uploader considers him as same as Kailash Matwala who was the lyricist in “Aage Kadam”(1943). By the way, the cast has one name mentioned as P Matwala. So who knows, the same person may have acted in the movie as well.
There were two music directors in this movie, viz Jati Baksh and A Shah. The distribution of their workload among the eight songs of the movie is not known.
Only audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song. With this song, the movie “Gunehgaar”(1936) makes its debut in the blog, as does the music director of this movie.
