Blog Day :

6231 Post No. : 19265

Today (9 August 2025) is Rakshabandhan. Incidentally, Rakshabandhan was the first festival for this blog when this blog began on 19 July 2008. On that year, Rakshabandhan was on 16 August 2008, one day after Independence day. Chosing an appropriate song for the occasion was a no brainer for me. I had covered the iconic Rakshabandhan song, bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana. That post turned out to be a “game changer” for the blog as the blog received visitors in three digits on that day for the first time. That was a breakthrough for the blog as it began to get noticed by more and more music lovers.

We have been covering rakshabandhan related songs on all Rakshabandhan days. There have been 17 such occasions on the blog so far. All the well known rakshabandhan songs have already been covered by now. 26 Rakshabandhan related songs have been covered on these 17 occasions.

Today, on the occasion of the 18th Rakshabandhan day (9 August 2025) for the blog, here is a lesser known Raksha bandhan song. This song is from “Pyaar Ka Rishtaa”(1973).

“Pyaar Ka Rishtaa”(1973) was produced by Tony Walker and directed by Sultan Ahmed for Golden Films, Bombay. The movie had Mumtaz, Sameer, Vinod Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha, Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy, Nadira, with Jayshree T, Malka, Randhir, Yunus Parvez, Master Ripple, Baby Deepali, Moolchand Kapoor, Master Ejaz and Chaman Puri,Johny Walker etc in it.

“Pyaar Ka Rishtaa”(1973) had five songs in it. Three of these songs have been covered in the blog.

This song, the fourth song from “Pyaar Ka Rishtaa”(1973) is sung by Rafi. Indeewar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. This song gets played in the background on the occasion of various rakshabandhan days as the brother( Balraj Sahni) and sister (Nirupa Roy) who have got separated from each other, miss each other while watching more fortunate siblings celebrating the occasion. The two miss each other even when they are present on the same temple at the same time. Balraj Sahni is coming out of the temple while Nirupa Roy is going in, and they miss coming across eaach other by a whisker. Very Manmohan Desai like stuff even when this movie was not a Manmohan Desai movie.

The first two stanzas of the song gets played when the siblings have got separated and Nirupa Roy is struggling on streets with her song. The third stanza of the song get played on two separate occasions in the second half. The fourth stanza gets played at the fag end of the movie with THe End looming on the screen.

First two stanzas are picturised on Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy and Masterr Satyajit. Third stanza is picturised on Balraj Sahni and Nirupa Roy. In final stanza, Nadira, Sameer, Mumtaz, Vinod Khanna, Johny Walker etc are also seen.

This song was sent to me by Prakashchandra many years back. He had also given detailed information about where the various stanzaes of the song get played in the movie. The video is a combined video of all the occasions when this song gets played in the movie.

I take this occasion to wish everyone a happy Rakshabandhan. Dekho dil na kisee ka toote.

dekho dil na kisee ka tootey

pyaar ke dhaage saans kee doree
dono ek hee jaisey
pyaar ke dhaage saans kee doree

khaalee nahin jaatee qurbaanee
ek din rang laatee hai
khaali nahin jaatee qurbani
ek din rang laatee hai
lagan agar ho sachchi manzil
khud chalkar aatee hai ae ae
ghat`tee nahin hai
pyaar ki daulat
kitna hi koi lootey
dekho dil na kisi ka tootey
dekho dil na kisi ka tootey
pyaar ka rishtaa
sachcha rishtaa
baaqee rishtey jhoothey
dekho dil na kisi ka tootey
dekho dil na kisi ka tootey

Hi,

I’m posting here about your “other, almost defunct blog” that you mention in some older posts I came across when looking for “rail” songs.

Which blog is that? Where you wrote about 30 such songs?

Thx.

Thank you Atulji for bringing this song on to the blog.
I had seen this film a few years back and marked this song for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Glad that it has come on.
Balraj Sahni – Nirupa Roy are something like Jaya Bhadhuri – Sanjeev Kumar of the next generation of actors i.e. they have been paired in all the relations possible; amazing
