“Black & White-2008” was directed by Subhash Ghai for Mukta Arts Ltd, Bombay, his home production. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 22.02.2008 and it was produced by Raju Farooqui, Mukta Ghai, Subhash Ghai, and Rahul Puri.
Screenplay of this movie “Black & White-2008” was written by Subhash Ghai, Akash Khurana, and Sachin Bhowmick. Story concept of this movie was by Varun Vardhan.
Dialogues in this movie were written by Subhash Ghai himself whereas the editing of this movie was done by Subhash Ghai and Amitabh Shukla.
The cast of this movie included Anil Kapoor, Anurag Sinha, Aditi Sharma, Shefali Shah, Habib Tanveer, Ishita Ambardekar, Saie Tamhankar, Jaimini Pathak, Sukrit Sharma, Jeet Waldia, Akash Khurana, Arun Bakshi, Milind Gunaji, Manmeet Singh Sawhney, Mushtaq Khan, Ravi Kale, Saurabh Dave, Vikrant Chaturvedi, Pawan Chuptra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kumud Mishra, Madhur Arora, Mandar Gokhale, Sudhir Nema, Tarun Bajaj, Mira Savoor, Nirmal Khera, Dharmendra Jaiswal, Vida Samadzai, Amarjeet Singh, Neeraj Sood, Lalu Makhija, Kuldeep Sarin, Sukanya Dhande, Inderjeet Ahluwalia, Shabnam Kapoor, Nikhil Ratnaparkhi, Gaurav Saini and others.
I have not watched this movie “Black & White-2008”. However, I had read about it earlier on media that it is a good film and it should be a part of your movie watching list. The story of this movie revolves around suicide bomber Nomair Qazi (played by debutant actor Anurag Sinha) who is sent by an Islamic Fundamentalist group from Afghanistan to cause a bomb-blast during an Independence Day celebrations at Red fort Delhi in India. After coming to India he meets Rajan Mathur (Anil Kapoor) and his wife Roma Mathur (Shefali Chhaya) who is living in the Chandni Chowk area of New Delhi where people of different faiths live with harmony and peace.
How Nomair wins the trust of the Mathurs and becomes successful to get an entry to the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort and what happens next is what we have to watch in the movie. And as usual in our Hindi Cinema the story has a sub-plot of love & romance where Nomair falls in love with a girl and also gets mixed up in the warmth and love of people around who represent different colours of India and its culture. However Nomair does have a ‘heart transformation’ and ‘does he accomplishes his mission’ is again what we have to watch in this movie.
Sources mentioned that this movie is based on a American movie of 2005 ‘The War Within’. However sources also mentioned that Subhash Ghai during an interview told that he had taken inspiration for this movie ‘Black & White-2008’ from another Hollywood movie ‘The Devil’s Own’.
So, what we have in this movie for us or what piqued my interest in this movie for today? It is this poignant-patriotic song from this movie which I am presenting here today. It is about our country, how much we love it and what it means for us. The lyrics for this song are by Ibrahim Ashk and music is composed by Singer Sukhwinder Singh. This movie has seven songs (including two versions of today’s song) which are all written by Ibrahim Ashk and where the music is composed by Sukhwinder Singh. Sukhwinder Singh also appeared in the picturisation of one song of this movie where he is the singer of that song.
This song is sung by Udit Narayan and another version has the voice of Jagjit Singh. I guess that this song was not included in the movie though recorded. However the prelude music of this song appears in the end of the movie as the titles start rolling. And a small clip of this video is available where the song is played in the background. In the online version of this movie the song is not played in the background and only music is played.
Today on the occasion of 79th Anniversary of our Independence, which we got on this day i.e. 15th August in 1947, let us listen to this song filled with patriotism, fragrance and essence of our soil and our country that is INDIA!!!
