Now let’s move away from the Kamsune/Ansune songs of Asha Bhosle and welcome a crazy as song.
Dhadkan 1972 is directed by Devendra Goel and stars The movie stars Sanjay Khan, Mumtaz, Rajendra Nath, Helen, Bindu, Roopesh Kumar, etc in pivotal roles.
The story according to IMDB is:
Young Deepak Roy accidentally shoots his childhood friend, Suraj, and believing him to be dead, runs away from home. Quite unknown to him, Suraj has survived and is living with Deepak’s mom. Years later, Mrs. Roy is thrilled when she gets a telegram informing her of Deepak’s home-coming, and both Suraj and she go to Anandpuri railway station to welcome him back. Deepak arrives, he is welcomed, takes over the business, and the estate. He gets married to Rekha, who was at one time in love with Suraj. The years go by, Mrs. Roy has an accident and loses her vision, and then Rekha’s dad passes away, leaving her to care for her younger brother, Dobby. Although Dobby has never been to Rekha’s place, nor has he ever met Deepak, he knows all about the house, the belongings, the furniture, even the items in Deepak’s safe – he also knows a deadly secret that Deepak has kept from everyone – murder!!
This crazy as song is “Elpar Saariyaan Elpar” sung by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle and the composer Ravi Shankar Sharma, himself. The song is penned by Ravi, Prem Dhawan and Ali Jalili and is composed by Ravi. This song is a parody of commercials/advertisements of those days, which used to heard on Radio Ceylon (SLBC) and Vividh Bharati (All India Radio). Elpar is a brand of suitings and other fabrics manufactured by Paragon Textiles Mills Pvt Ltd, which became a household name in India during the 1960s & 70s.

The song is picturised on Sanjay Khan, who is listening to the transistor and hearing the jingles. He is then joined in his dreams, by Mumtaz and they lip sync & dance to the jingles. We also see Rajendernath lip syncing to the Limca ad jingle.

This song is madcap magic. Kishore, Asha and even composer Ravi turn vintage radio jingles into a riot of a song. Ravi weaves ads, nostalgia and sheer madness into one zany musical fabric, unmistakably Elpaar.
