As I am nearing my 100th post (currently at 96 posts), I am looking for some songs sung by the big 4 (ie) Mohd. Rafi Saab, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. With over 19K songs posted on the blog it’s quite difficult to find songs by these legends.
However, as I was contemplating on songs to be posted, I found this rare trio sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and two/three lines by Manna Dey.
The song, “Aag Se Aag Bujhale” is from a 1973 movie “Jalte Badan”. This film was produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar.
It starred Kiran Kumar, Kumkum, Padma Khanna, Alka, Sujit Kumar, Dinesh Thakur, Viju Khote, Karan Dewan, Krishan Dhawan, Pradeep Kumar, Jagdish Raj etc.
Jalte Badan is a social drama with a strong cautionary theme, focusing on the menace of drugs among college students in the early 1970s.
The story follows Kiran (Kiran Kumar), a young man from a respectable family who goes to Bombay for his higher education. Initially studious and focused, he gets entangled in the fast life of the big city.
In college, he comes across a group of spoiled rich youngsters who lure him into their circle. Slowly, he is introduced to the world of nightclubs, cabarets, and drugs.
Sandhya (Padma Khanna), a dancer in a nightclub, plays a major role in his downfall. She seduces him, and through her and her associates, Kiran becomes addicted to drugs. His life begins to spiral downward.
While under the influence, Kiran distances himself from his family values, studies, and moral upbringing. He becomes more entangled in the underworld of narcotics, used and manipulated by criminals who profit from young addicts.
His family, particularly his mother, suffers seeing his transformation. Attempts are made by well-wishers and friends to bring him back to the right path.
The film climaxes with a tragic end: Kiran, unable to free himself from addiction, loses control of his life. He ultimately dies a painful death—serving as a moral lesson on the dangers of drugs and reckless living.
The movie was intended as a social warning against the rising problem of drug abuse among youth in India in the 1970s.
In short, Jalte Badan is the story of a young man’s descent from an innocent student to a drug addict, seduced by city vices, ultimately ending in tragedy— a cautionary tale about the dangers of drugs and moral decline.
The movie had four songs out of which one was posted by Avinash Scrapwala Ji. This is the second song to be posted.
This song works as a turning point, making the audience sympathize with Kiran’s plight, even as they see him slipping further into self-destruction.
It’s a reminder of his lost innocence and his inability to escape the trap he has fallen into.
