Today I am presenting the final song from the movie ‘Maan Abhimaan-1980’. This movie was directed by Hiren Nag for ‘Rajshri Productions, Bombay’. The cast of this movie has Rameshwari, Raj Kiran, Shashi Puri, Kavita Kiran, C.S. Dubey, Jagirdar, Yunus Parvez, Sundar, Arun Kumar, Pardesi, Albela, Master Rajesh, Chandu Allahabadi, Brijendra Mohan and others. Amrish Puri, Iftekhar and Sulochana had a guest appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.08.1980.

‘Maan Abhimaan-1980’ has six songs (including two ‘two-part’ songs) which were all written and composed by Ravindra Jain. The list of the songs is given in the following table with the name of the singer for each song and their date of posting on the blog.

SNo Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Ae mere udaas man Yesudas 10.01.2017
02 Kyaa likhoon kaise likhoon (part-1 & 2) Hemlata 06.01.2025
03 Ek but se mohabbat kar ke Yesudas 10.01.2025
04 Inhee mulaaqaaton mein koyee mulaaqaat Suresh Wadkar 18.01.2025
05 Kab tak roothhee rahogee raadhaa raanee Ravindra Jain 10.05.2025
06 Saat samandar terah nadee paar (part 1&2) Hemlata Being covered in the post

From the above table we can see that so far five songs from this movie have already been covered on the blog and only one song remains to be posted.

After the first song from this movie was posted on 10.01.2017, none of the other songs were added in recent years. I took up presenting the other songs after I watched this movie on internet video sharing platform sometime around October-November last year (2024). In all the posts that I have presented so far I have mentioned about the story of this movie and the background for the songs. I loved watching this movie. So here I am once again repeating part of texts from my earlier posts.

“Maan Abhimaan-1980’ was the movie from ‘Rajshri Productions’ and as for the other movies from this banner, this movie is another movie where they give us a ‘clean, heart-warming, family drama movie with some very nice musical compositions that come along the story’. I like this movie for its simple story and the engrossing screenplay, the performances of almost all cast members and its music. Despite having some good songs none of the songs of this movie ‘Maan Abhimaan’ made it to the ‘annual list of Binaca Geetmala-1980’. The story of this movie is very simple and it is presented in same simple way with no ‘extra noise’, ‘romantic scenes’, ‘unnecessary twists’ and ‘loud music’.

Mathura Prasad (Amrish Puri) and Thakur Sumer Singh (Iftekhar) are friends and partner in business. Sumer Singh trusts Mathura Prasad. But Mathura Prasad ditches him by doing fraud in the money matters and property of Sumer Singh leaving him destroyed. Mathura Prasad’s trusted Munim (C.S. Dubey) helps in creating a ‘rift’ between them and time to time provokes his master to buy the ‘haveli’ of Sumer Singh which is under mortgage. Sumer Singh is shocked and passes away leaving a daughter (Mallika) and her kid brother Somu (Master Rajesh) behind. They still stay in their ancestral (‘haveli’) house and did not want to leave the place. They are supported by Hari Kaka (Yunus Parvez, who, in my opinion, has a great performance in this movie.)

Mathura Prasad has a son Ajay (Raj Kiran) and a daughter Rekha. Ajay has finished his studies of accountancy in London, and he has returned to home now. Mathura Prasad wants him to start looking after his business so that he can relax now and let Ajay gradually take over all his responsibilities. On instance of Munim, Mathura Prasad gives him the first assignment to visit their ancestral village and their assets there. He suggests Ajay should also visit the same ‘haveli’ which they intend to buy. On the way Ajay first meets Mallika’s kid brother and develop a friendship with him. The next day when he visits the haveli with Munim, Mallika treats him badly hinting of that their family is responsible for her father’s death. Mallika’s behaviour is beyond Ajay’s understanding. So, he decides to get to the root of the ‘truth’, overlooking his Munim’s continues ‘fuelling’ him against Mallika. In this process Ajay further develops the bond of friendship with Mallika’s kid brother Somu and tries to make peace with Mallika. But all his efforts meet with repeated rebuffs from Mallika. Ajay also tears out the papers of the ‘haveli’ which he bought from the mortgagee. He does all this to win the love of Mallika, but Mallika is not sure of her feelings as her ‘abhimaan’ prevents her every time. And, since she cannot forget about what Ajay’s father had done to her father. Finally, she reconciles and accepts the love of Ajay.

The treatment to the story by the director Hiren Naag is commendable and while appreciating the director’s work one should think of the possibilities that the director could have explored in the story of this movie. Given the types of movies and especially the ‘formula movies’ and the ‘lost & found formula’ movies, he could have tried to show Ajay and Mallika as childhood friends and re-uniting later. He could also have explored the possibilities of ‘romantic/intimate scenes between Ajay and Mallika. But in the whole movie they do not do even a ‘handshake’ or a ‘simple touch’ and that is where the strength of the story and its presentation lies. And the director keep away from all the temptations if any and created a ‘master-piece’ which missed out in the midst of other popular movie from being a widely popular or most successful movie of its time. As I said above the performances of all the artistes and great and Rameshwari and Yunus Parvez delivered their best in this movie in my opinion.

Today’s song is a ‘lorie’ song in first part, which happens after the tragedy had struck to Mallika and her younger brother, when their father has left them. Mallika is trying to cope up with this situation and when her younger brother is feeling uneasy she is trying to make him sleep by singing the ‘lorie’.

As I said in my earlier posts the younger brother (Master Rajesh) of Mallika plays an important role in bringing Ajay and Mallika together. The second part of this song is a background song where we can see the younger brother being troubled seeing the distress of his sister whose abhimaan is coming in the way of accepting the love of Ajay’. He goes to Ajay and explain him the circumstances and brings Ajay and Mallika together forever.

Let us listen to and watching the final song from this movie ‘Maan Abhimaan-1980’. The song is picturised on Master Rajesh, Rameshwari and Raj Kiran.
