“Jaag Uthhaa Insaan-1984” was directed by K. Vishwanath for Film Kraft, Bombay. It was produced by Rakesh Roshan. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 24.05.1985. The cast of this movie included Rakesh Roshan, Mithun Chakravarty, and Sri Devi, Deven Verma, Sujit Kumar, Kanan Kaushal, Sudhir Dalvi, Yunus Parvez, Beena, Master Chhotu (2), Surekha, R.R. Somaiyya, Master Subramanyam, Somaiyya Jelu and others. Parikshit Sahni and Paintal made a guest appearance in this movie. The Director of this movie K. Vishwanath also wrote the story and screenplay of this movie other than doing directing this movie.
“Jaag Uthhaa Insaan-1984” has five songs written by Indeevar which were composed by Rajesh Roshan. I had watched this movie with one of my Uncles (who is a great fan of Rajendra Kumar as well as Rakesh Roshan) at Akola and liked this movie very much. Three songs out of the five songs of this movie have already been posted on the blog. The lyrics for all the three songs posted so far were contributed by our dear Prakashchandra who also liked this movie very much. In one of the postsviz ‘Morni ne seekha ’ he had make a longer comment on the blog.I think it would be appropriate if I include the text from this comment about the story of this movie and information about the others moves directed by K. Vishwanath here below.
According to me, this is a very good movie, which has got very good performances by both Sridevi and Mithun Chakraborty (one of Mithun`s superb performance as a silent ‘Harijan’ flutist, who silently loves Brahmin dancer Sridevi). Sridevi`s classical dances and silent acting in this movie is also extraordinary. This movie has got exceptional, soothing musical compositions by Rajesh Roshan, but was not successful at box office.
On the sets of this movie, Mithun and Sridevi came closer and almost got married, according to Trade gossip magazines.Rakesh Roshan who produces mostly movies starting with his favorite alphabet “K”, for this movie and Bhagwan dada (also starring Sridevi, Hrithik Roshan as a child artiste) left his “K” and got unsuccessful ventures in his hand.
This is a remake of Telugu famous movie “Saptapadi” (1981). The director of this movie is very famous in South Indian movie industry , who directed famous Telugu musicals like Shakarabharanam (which later made in Hindi as ‘Sur Sangam’ starring Girish Karnad, Jayaprada), ‘Sagar Sangamam’ (Starring Kamal Hassan, Jayaprada), and others (edited). Hindi movies directed by Vishwanath are ‘Sargam’ (Rishi Kapoor, Jayaprada),’Dhanwan’ (Ajay Devgan, Manisha Koirala, Karishma Kapoor), ‘Eeshwar’(Anil Kapoor, Vijaya Shanthi),‘Kaamchor’(Rakesh Roshan, Jayaprada), ‘Shubhkaamna’ (Rati Agnihothri, Rakesh Roshan, Utpal Dutt), ‘Sanjog’ (Jeetendra, Jayaprada), ‘Aurat Aurat Aurat’ (Rekha, Rakesh Roshan, Sadashiv Amrapurkar), ‘Sangeet’ (Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff), (All above well directed movies got very good music and very good stories.)
Today I am presenting the fourth song from this movie. One thing I would like to mention here that in spite of having good songs no song from this movie could make it to the annual list of Binaca Geetmala of 1984.
Today’s song is a maataa bhajan song sung by Mahendra Kapoor. Parikshit Sahni lip-syncs the song on screen. Rakesh Roshan, Sri Devi and many others are also seen in the picturisation of this song. Let us listen to this devotional song on this second day of Navraatri of Durgaa Poojaa Festival of 2025.
