Today 28th September 2025 is the ninety-sixth birth anniversary of Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar. She was born on 28th September 1929 and she passed away on 6th of February’2022. On this occasion I am presenting a song from the ‘1991’ movie ‘First Love Letter’.
“First Love Letter-1991” was directed by Shiva for Vishaldeep International’s, Bombay. It was produced by Pahlaj Nihalani. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 03.09.1991. It had Vivek Mushran, Manisha Koirala, Dilip Tahil, Gulshan Grover, Sushama Sheth, Bina, Reema Lagoo, and Danny Denzongpa. Paintal and Harish Patel had a guest appearance in this movie and Sonika Gill had a special appearance in this movie. Story and Screenplay of this movie was written by Ram Kelkar and dialogues were written by Kamlesh Pandey. The editing of this movie was done by Nandkumar. Lyricist Anjaan wrote all the seven songs (including one multiple version song) of this movie and music was composed by Bappi Lahiri. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, S.P. Balasubramaniam and Kavita Krishnamurthy were the playback singers for this movie.
I have not watched this movie “First Love Letter-1991” though I had watched the movie ‘Saudagar-1991’ when I was at Kota (Rajasthan). This movie “First Love Letter” is the second movie of actor Vivek Mushran and actress Manisha Koirala together. This movie has some good songs composed by Bappi Lahiri. Today’s song was at the back of my mind all these years but I had forgotten which movie it was from . Story of the movie seems to be a routine love story of of rich and poor where love finally triumps after facing lots of hardships and obstacles, and the lovers get united forever.
Female version of this song, sung by Lata Mangeshkar is a nice hummable song. Its picturisation shows Radha (Manisha Koirala) expressing her feelings of love for Shyam (Vivek Mushran). This song is picturised at beautiful outdoor locations.
I was not aware of the male version till now. This version seems to get played when the lovers are separated by circumstances and they are missing each other. This is sad version of the song. In this version we see Shyam writing a letterto Radha with his blood.
Let us listen to this wonderful composition by Bappi Lahiri. Lyricist is Anjaan. Lata Mangeshkar and S.P. Balasubramaniam are the singers. With this song the movie “First Love Letter-1991” makes its debut on the blog.
