“Nayi Duniyaa Naye Log” was introduced on the blog by our friend Avinash Ji, with this post.
“Nayi Duniyaa Naye Log” was directed by B.R. Ishara for ‘Nitin Films International, Bombay. It was produced by I.M Kunnu who had also done the Editing of this movie.
It had Reena Roy, Satyen (new discovery), Manmohan Krihsna, Asit Sen, Nadira, Danny Denzongpa, Amal Sen, Baby Gauri, Abhijit Sen, Lalit Rai, Dr. Ravi, Malhotra, Sham, Ram Singh, Sheikh, Shetty, M. Abbas Sheikh, Shailashree and others
The movie had four songs. Two of them are already posted here on the blog. Here’s the third song – “Love Can Fly High And High” sung by Ursula Vaz. The song is written by Naqsh Lyallpuri and composed by Sapan Jagmohan.
Nai Duniya Naye Log is a social drama woven around the clash between idealism, poverty, and the lure of materialistic success.
The story follows Reena Roy (playing a sensitive, progressive-minded woman) and Danny Denzongpa (as a struggling youth with big dreams) who belong to humble backgrounds. They represent the new generation of Indians in the early 1970s, who dream of building a new world (nai duniya) but often get entangled in corruption, greed, and compromises that society (purani duniya) imposes on them.
The narrative traces their love story, set against the backdrop of poverty and social injustice. Danny’s character aspires to rise above his conditions, but in doing so faces moral dilemmas and temptations that distance him from his values. Reena’s character symbolizes honesty and integrity, constantly pulling him back towards principles.
Nadira plays a strong supporting role as a worldly-wise older woman, adding complexity to the relationship dynamics. Paintal provides comic relief as the hero’s friend.
The film’s dramatic tension comes from whether the young lovers will manage to survive the harsh realities of the world without losing their values — or whether society’s pressures will break them apart.
True to B.R. Ishara’s style (known for Chetna and other bold, realistic films), the movie uses stark realism, bold themes, and a slightly unconventional treatment for its time.
I remember watching this movie in its first run and very vividly recall that this song “Love Can Fly High and High” comes in the first half of the film, and is in two parts.
In part 1, we see Nadira dancing like she’s on fire!! And we have Manmohan Krishna in a disguise (fake mush and sunnies).
In the second part we see Danny Denzongpa and Reena Roy openly acknowledging their feelings for each other.
It is staged as a romantic fantasy sequence: they imagine themselves free from poverty, family pressure, and social barriers, enjoying a dreamlike world where their love is limitless.
In the second video, our regular Mr. Prakashchandra Ji has commented that the lady who is seen lip syncing the song is Shailashree, a has been actress from the Kannada film industry.
