Hullo Atuldom
“This is a multi-birthday post.
First and foremost we shall be wishing our Sudhirji- The Dillwala Dilliwala; Atulji’s trusted lieutenant on his birthday. He has been a huge help to Atulji and that has ensured that the blog has had no dot days since 25th December 2019. Let us all wish this Atulite with lots of fun and music.”
This was the opening line of my post of the 2nd December 2022. For sometime now, the rate at which Sudhirji’s posts are appearing is less than a trickle. Hope he picks up the threads of all the series that he has made us addicted to. “Ram Jaane” when he will pick up steam.
Hope you have a Great Day Sudhirji-
Happy Birthday To You🌯🍫🍦🎂🕺💃
I just remembered that there was a film with the title “Ram Jaane” in 1995. It was directed by Rajiv Mehra & produced by Parvesh Mehra under the Eagle Films’ banner. The songs were written by Anand Bakshi & composed by Anu Malik. Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Bali Brahmabhatt, Sadhana Sargam, Abhijeet and someone called Anupama -I {possibly the ‘I’ was added to her name to distinguish her from Anupama Deshpande who was the voice behind the song ‘Sohni Chenab de kinaare’ from ‘Sohni Mahiwal’ in 1983} were the singers used.
The cast was headed by Juhi Chawla- Shahrukh Khan – Vivek Mushran with Pankaj Kapur, Puneet Issar, Tinu Anand, Deven Verma, Gulshan Grover, Amrit Pal, Arun Bali, Kishore Bhatt, Chandu Parkhi, Brownie, Ali Asgar, Rakesh Bhanushali, Avatar Gill, Rajendra Mehra etc playing supporting characters. The film was said to be an adaptation of a 1938 American film ‘Angels with Dirty Faces’.
I have not seen the film but have only read about that it was the story of Ram Jaane (SRK) an orphan, who grows up to be a criminal. His social worker friend (Vivek Mushran) tries to reform him but Ram is keener to win over his childhood love, Bela (Juhi Chawla), than turning over a new leaf. It was supposed to be an action thriller & ‘Ram Jaane’ was meant to mean that ‘God Knows’. The orphan uses the name ‘Ram Jaane’ after meeting a priest who, in response to the boy asking what his real name was, said “Ram Jaane” (Ram knows). It was the fourth time SRK played a negative role after ‘Baazigar’, ‘Darr’ and ‘Anjaam’.
The 30-year-old ‘Ram Jaane’ (released on 1st December 1995) makes its debut on the blog on a day that sees SRK (Shahrukh Khan) turning a year older. 60 actually. Here is wishing this Dilliwala who came to Bombay (Mumbai) with dreams of becoming an actor. He began his career in television serials of the late 1980s. Since then, he has been in public eye and was given the epithets of ‘Badshah of Bollywood’; ‘King Khan’ etc by the media when he tasted success on the Silver Screen too with films like ‘Darr’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘DDLJ’ and and and many many more films of the 1990s.
I don’t know if he wooed success or success wooed him but he went on to become a filmmaker as well as the owner of an IPL cricket team with his strong business acumen. It is not as if everything he touched turned GOLD but he has learnt to bounce back. In all these years, he has won 14 Filmfare awards with 8 of them in the best actor category (Legend Dilip Kumar is the the other actor with 8 Filmfare Best Actor awards). He won National Award for best actor this year, for the film “Jawan” which was a 2023 release. He has also been conferred the Padma Shri in 2005 by the Government of India.
Happy Birthday SRK.
We shall also wish the music director of this film -Anwar Malik- on his birthday. He is the son of yesteryear music director Sardar Malik & nephew of Hasrat Jaipuri and is well known as Anu Malik. He has been making music since 1977 when he composed a song for Mohan Choti’s film ‘Hunterwali 77’, the other songs were composed by his father Sardar Malik. Anu Malik’s first full fledged film soundtrack was for Harmesh Malhotra’s ‘Poonam’. Since then he has been associated with films of various genres and songs that can be hummed or danced alongwith. Anu Malik has worked with many Indian playback singers including Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar, and others. During the ’80s, he mostly worked with singers such as Mohammad Aziz, Shabbir Kumar, Manhar Udhas, Suresh Wadkar, Nitin Mukesh and Anwar. Although he is not a mainstream singer, he does playback singing. Written off as a singer in his early days (“Julie Julie,” for instance), he continues to sing his own compositions occasionally. Following the death of music director R. D. Burman in 1994, Anu Malik has completed music for Burman’s unfinished film projects ‘Gang’, ‘Ghatak’ etc. He was awarded the Silver Lotus at the National Film awards for the music of J.P. Dutta’s ‘Refugee’ (2000) and has also won the Filmfare award for Best Music Director for ‘Baazigar’ & ‘Main Hoon Na’ Since 2004/2005 he has also been a judge for some reality shows on television
Happy Birthday to Anu Malik
Now let us all do the Bangra to celebrate the BIRTHDAYS
